June 27, 201213 yr Ok so i was doing some work to my comp. I had my phenom ii 965BE overclocked to 3.8 stable. Well my son was running around and bumped the tower and somehow the cpu came loose and now has a crack in it. The comp will still boot to windows but blue screens each time. Temps are wild. I need to buy a new cpu but cant decide on what to get. I know the intel is better but i am sticking with amd as i am already set up for it. So what cpu should i go with? I would like to OC and get into the 4GHz range. My system specs should be in my sig. Thanks in advance. Windows 7 64bit, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Ram 12GB, EVGA GTX760 2GB, Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard, Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz (OC 4.4GHz), Corsair H80 liquid cooler, Coolermaster Elite 430 case.
June 27, 201213 yr Start with this.... Just kidding......... Here, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103960 Make sure your cooler will do the job as this is a 8 core CPU. If you got some spare change get yourself a better GPU as this will be your bottleneck after overclocking this CPU, got the 2133MHz rams? http://www.overclock...ews/amd_fx8150/ http://www.bit-tech....-8150-review/12
June 27, 201213 yr I would recommend another Phenom II X4 Getting an 8 core bulldozer is wasting 4 cores & $100 IMHO
June 28, 201213 yr I would recommend another Phenom II X4 Getting an 8 core bulldozer is wasting 4 cores & $100 IMHO If he is doing some serious multireaded stuff, it might be helpful to have eight. But like you said, (for normal usage), the bulldozer is a complete waste. Although, I am quite excited to see how the new pile driver chips turn out.
June 28, 201213 yr Prior to current SB, I had a AMD 970 BE and it would OC to 3.9 to 4.0 stable and worked fairly well. Not as good as I 2600 of course.
