May 24, 200422 yr I just finished the wonderful review of the PMDG 737NG and was much impressed, as I have been with the group's fine products since the days of FLyII.But looking around at the interior shots, as well as the shots on many add-on airplanes, I was struck by the fact that, here we have all these wonderful interiors, yet they all make the planes look like ghost ships.Perhaps it would be a bit macabre to have passengers inside a plane that the novice may spend most of early time crashing, I dont know. But maybe a few people sitting here and there... or maybe alternatvie interior shots that could be swapped out once flying proficiency is obtained...Maybe it's just a lot easier to do a really fine seat but tougher to put a convincing-looking person in it.Anyway, just a thought....John WhiteNewburgh, IN
May 24, 200422 yr I would murder frame rates on already maxxed out systems, otherwise you are right, it would be sweet.Randy Jura, KPDX
May 24, 200422 yr Hi John! Long time no-see. hey, I thought you flew helo's anyway. ;-)Give me a call when you get a chance...Hope all is well..Wayne
May 24, 200422 yr I assume that putting a realistic amount of fairly detailed people in the cabin would be a real framerate killer. Also, 3D rendered people tend to look somewhat creepy.- Oyvind
May 24, 200422 yr >Framerates aside though....>Arent the interior shots just bmps anyway???>JohnNope- the real deal, 3d walk-through like the VC...really nice!
May 24, 200422 yr >Framerates aside though....>Arent the interior shots just bmps anyway???>JohnYes and no. On the PMDG bird, those gorgeous interiors are 3D, and can be "walked through" with Active Camera, but when you look around from the 2d cockpit, the images you see are 2d bitmaps. A good rule of thumb is that if it's called a "virtual cabin", it's 3d, and adding people to it, such as figures from the 3D figure program Poser, would be far too much for the system to handle. There have been a few addons that add a few people to the cabin in a rearview 2d bitmap, though. I've seen one in particular that adds Bogey and Rita Hayworth to the rear view of a Connie, but I can't recall where, or the filename.Jon D. May 24, 200422 yr Ooooh, what a motley crew..... :-) They have that sort of "Get me there ... and now" look, dont they??On second thought, maybe an empty plane is the way to go.Thanks to all you guys who responded.John Whitenewburgh
May 25, 200422 yr Hi,If you want a plane with a passenger(animated no less) in the virtual cabin, you could always get the Eaglesoft Citation X. :7 Perhaps the Citation X is a preview of things to come! ;)Edit: On second thought you might not always be able to get it, as I hear their website is currently down and may be down a for little time to come. They are working on it though. It may be possible to download the Flight1 wrapper installer for the Citation X from somewhere else, but I wouldn't know where.Cheers,Jim
May 26, 200422 yr John, the human element is definitely lacking in FS. After enjoying Call of Duty the lack of human beings both in the airports and aircraft gives FS a slightly sterile feel. I would love to see FS populated with animated people. As computer hardware becomes ever more powerful this should be feasible. How about a realistic instructor sitting in the co-pilot's seat and giving instructions? Of course, you would need human AI as well as aircraft AI. I look forward to the Microsoft Human AI SDK! Best regards, Chris
