Corrupted KSEA file

Featured Replies

Is it possible to repair or replace a corrupted ap file? Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

A little more information perhaps? What sim? What is the problem with KSEA? Does AP mean airport?

Good points Art. As an old Grandpa type I forget the important details. The sim is FSX and my system is Windows7 64 bit. At KSEA runways and taxiways have disappeared in part or in total. If I view the airport from overhead and sufficiently zoomed out, it all appears quite normal but as I zoom in Runway 34 is suddenly about 100 yards long broken by "ground cover" then picks up again and runs to the end of the strip. Viewed from the aircraft I see odd shapes, the occasional building but it's a little like looking into a fractured mirror. I haven't added or changed anything since I last flew out of KSEA and everything was fine at that point. If a picture would help, let me know. I think that I can do that.

Thanks for the reply,

Eric

Files don't get "corrupted". They either work or don't because there is a conflict with another file. So getting one of the files for the area doesn't sound like it will fix your conflict. Which leads to..., what add-ons do you have that might affect that area? Anything that you might have forgotten to turn "ON" that applies to that area?

I can only respond by saying that I don't have anything to "turn on". I start FSX, pick an aircraft and fly. In the first instance KSEA was fine, in the next it wasn't. Whatever is at the root of things, it has affected only that specific airport. So it sounds like the solution is "don't use that airport". I can live with that but it surprises me that there doesn't seem to be any way of diagnosing the problem and solving the issue.

Other add-ons for the PNW could have had an effect. There have been cases of add-ons causing problems in areas far, far away. So before looking at "fixing" a problem, you need to know what the problem is.

If you have anything added in as scenery and listed in the Scenery Library I would turn it off and then go check KSEA. Is it OK? If so, something is causing your situation. So you go back to the Scenery Library and turn on half of what you turned off. Check KSEA, good or not? It's just a process of elimination.

Your description is not of a bad airport file, the APX file in FSX, but rather of a bad flatten file. These flattens are contained in a cvxXXXXX.bgl file for an area and along with flattens they hold roads, coastlines, and a whole lot of other things. If it were some how corrupted in some manner, more than likely FSX would crash. And you would be seeing more problems then just the airport background flatten gone at KSEA.

  • 2 weeks later...

As Lance (Meshman) says, this sounds like a missing airport background polygon or flatten. If this is an addon airport then did it come with any files with CVX in the name? If so these probably contain terrain information such as flattens. If you did not include this file along with the airport file then try that first.
