July 5, 201213 yr Hi, I recently purchased the MCP Combo II panel to use with LINDA and the iFly 737-800. So far it's working like a charm, the only thing I can't get to work is to get the display to show the flap and gear movement etc. I did see it was possible on the internet but I think that was with the PMDG737NGX. Is this also possible for the iFly? Thanks in advance, 0verride
July 5, 201213 yr Hello, I do not own the iFly, the module was made by a LINDA user (thanks!) So, you have to wait for him to join in or contact him and ask if he have added display support or will do it ... Yes, the youtube video was with NGX. With the modules I made, I try to use the displays as much as possible... July 5, 201213 yr Author Hi, Thank you for the fast response! I'll just wait and see if he joins us anytime soon :) Otherwise I might have to switch to the PMDG because that youtube video looked really awesome with the MCP Combo :)
July 5, 201213 yr To be honest, you SHOULD switch to the NGX! A real life NGX technician had the iFly also and was very keen about her. I alwas told him to buy the NGX also and compare. Finally he did and stated it is really a higher level! (I don't want to start a NGX vs. iFly thread here, but just in case you think about buying the NGX) Guenter Steiner -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betatester for: A2A, LORBY, FSR-Pillow Tester --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 5, 201213 yr Author Yeah I know PMDG also is a beautiful aircraft, it's just that I did a little research before purchasing any one of those 2 aircraft and it seemed to me iFly is more compatibly with most hardware than PMDG is. I found that the PMDG can't be synchronized with the MCP Combo and the VRInsight 737 OVH Panel is also only Plug and Play with the iFly, so for that reason I decided to go with the iFly ;) It's not that I don't like the PMDG, don't get me wrong! it's absolutely magnificent. It's just that the iFly suits me better and if I could get the MCP Combo display to show the flap and gear positions it'll be just perfect for me
July 5, 201213 yr I found that the PMDG can't be synchronized with the MCP Combo LINDA and the NGX: perfectly synchronised in every aspect and with far more functions and display options then VRInsight ever provided for the NGX B) the youtube video is an old one: just let me show one example: LINDA combo displays APU temp if you are on ground and no flaps are selected (meaning startup) If you start to roll and set flaps, the display will automatically change to flaps and gear. And all switches will be shown in the display if operated. You can choose between flight info and Autopilot info (not a unique NGX feature - valid for all addons) Guenter Steiner -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betatester for: A2A, LORBY, FSR-Pillow Tester --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 6, 201213 yr Guenter you should know better than anyone not to believe everything you read on the net, the iFly 737 is an excellent simulation. Please in future make your own mind up after having actually used a product yourself, dont regurgitate second hand knowledge. The iFly 737s third party hardware support is unsurpassed in the FS industry, PMDG's support is kindergarten in comparison even with all the fantastic work done by third parties like yourself. If someone had the time and knowledge the ifly module for Linda could actually be better than for the NGX, simply because of the iFlys far superior SDK. Cheers, Andy.
July 6, 201213 yr Andy, probably I wasn't clear enough: the iFly (as far as I can say from opinions and readings) is of course an excellent product, no doubt. The technician I mentioned is doing also test flights on 737 and I know him personally (real life personally ;-) ) and I visited him at work. So I tend to believe in his opinion. As I said he was also very keen about the iFly, but he lso stated that on some in deep tests (what he does in reality, too) he figured out, that the PMDG has some systems modelled more accurate and some which the iFly does not have at all. But we talk here about things that a normal simmer would never ever encounter due to lack of knowledge. My answer was targeting at the question if someone is thinking about buying the PMDG, owning already the iFly. About the hardware support: PMDG was always a bit closed regarding this question, but I was surprised how they changed their mind with the NGX. They implemented some variables especially for Artems request very fast with the first hotfix. And now they have provided the complete SDK. So, I do not know if iFlys SDK is better or not, thats not the question, but PMDG has learned and provides also now support. From my point I can't complain about. cheers! July 10, 201213 yr Hi, Thank you for the fast response! I'll just wait and see if he joins us anytime soon :) Otherwise I might have to switch to the PMDG because that youtube video looked really awesome with the MCP Combo :) Hi, so here I am... actually the module only supports the key command functions from the iflytofsuipc.exe I am sure that it would be possible to read flaps status and such things but since I have no such MCP Combo hardware I am not able to test anything. I am not sure how to go on with this... ifly sticks quite well to standard and I checked that flaps settings are available through standard fsuipc offsets ... maybe there is another module available right now which implements the needed function for a default fsx plane and we only have to merge it or you can already set it up using LINDA functionality.
