July 14, 201213 yr I was recently flying the MD-11 on the second tutorial flight from ORD to JFK. I spent a good one and a half hours programming the FMC, entering the navigation data, performing preflight checks etc. I then started taxiing, but, as I am only about 14 years old right now, I get limited time to play. I saved my flight (without saving a panel state, as it brought me the error 'cannot save file'), and quit fsx. The next day, I started my sim up again, but was very surprised to find that all the panel data was gone, the FMC at the main menu page with no data in it, the engines running at idle, and to put a long story short, the plane in a default panel state. So those were one and a half hours of hardwork, all wasted. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? Chirag Abichandani
July 14, 201213 yr Hi Wookie, As far as I know, its not advisable with any complex add ons like the PMDG MD-11 to try and save the game to come back to it later. There are so many things that PMDG do outside of the FSX framework to make their aircraft what they are. FSX simply doesn't know how to properly save a lot of it. If anyone else knows a good solution I would be happy to hear it. Also Wookie, if you read the forum rules, you will notice that you should sign your full name on all your posts in this forum. You run the risk of your posts being removed if you don't. Welcome to the wonderful world of PMDG! Sander Rutte
July 14, 201213 yr Author Hi Sander- So you mean to say that I will only be allowed to do MD-11 flights in one go? Well that WILL be a problem for long haul flights! Anyway, I posted this because I succesfully completed the first flight (Heathrow to Zurich) in two flights, INCLUDING a saved flight in between. I just don't know what went wrong this time. P.S. about my full name, I attached it to my sig, just in case I forget. Chirag Abichandani
July 14, 201213 yr Hi Chirag, I'm just speaking from personal experience.. it mostly went wrong for me in the past. There might be a way to do it properly, but I gave up on trying at some point. If I fly the long hauls, I do fly them in one go. Very rarely, if it gets too late in the night to stay awake and safely land the aircraft I might just pause the sim and return to it in the morning. I'm curious if anyone else can post the proper way to save midflight and return to it later. Nice one about the sig, most people do that.. B) Sander Rutte

B) Hehe, That means that my long haul flights will be on hold for some time.... Anyway, I have another alternative: Fly short haul with the good ol' ngx... :P About the sig: I can see that you've done that.. ;) Chirag Abichandani
July 15, 201213 yr Author Anyone with an answer to the problem I was facing with the panel state saver? Chirag Abichandani
July 17, 201213 yr It's probably worth your while trying again, to see if it was a one-off glitch. Also, make sure you right click and select "run as administrator" when starting FSX. I often have to restart from saved flights with the MD11 due to work/wife/children/life, and never have any problems. Regards, PD

August 26, 201213 yr I had the exact same problem on the ngx. I'm not sure if the save panel state screen in the FMC is the same on the MD11 as it is on the ngx (as i do not own the MD11, but am getting it soon, hence why I am in this forum :) ), but if it is then this might help. Check if you have a 'default panel state' set. If you do then remove it. That may well solve your problem.

September 18, 201213 yr Author Have you modified your .cfg file at all? That can cause a few problems too. I haven't modified it except installing new liveries, which is done by the installer. Chirag Abichandani
