July 15, 201213 yr hello, to have more realty in the simulation I compile the approaches looking at real approach charts. But I found that if the IAF(initial approach fix) is a waypoint or a terminal waypoint the transition will not appear during the pilot transition choise to obtain it from ATC . It's written in the FS2004sdk that it's possible to have as IAF a waypoint or a terminal_waypoint but it doesn't work. I tryed just for test to install in the same position of the IAF waypoint a NDB. In my approach compiling I changed only the fixType. With a NDB as IAF the Transition appears and everything works properly. Anybody can explain to me the why of this approach behaviour? Gianfranco
July 15, 201213 yr I made a few approaches using Cooktop to write xml code directly but not after the arrival of ADE9X. Half of that program is for Airport Design (AFCAD+). The other half is a graphical Approach Editor which you can use to add or edit approaches. It's freeware and has a very good, clearly written manual. http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/ There is also a support forum. Best of luck! John
July 16, 201213 yr FSX is broken if the approach type is ILS ATC will only offer transitions based on VOR (well, maybe also NDB, but mostly the only IAFs on navaids use VORs). Note that if the transition is a DME arc, ATC will offer it, but will tell you "cleared direct to VOR" (that the arc is based on) rather than the initial waypoint of the arc. AFAIK there is no fix. That's why I like RNAV approaches, the transitions always work. Edit: as you probably know, the GPS will display it correctly, it's just an ATC problem. scott s. .
July 23, 201213 yr Author In my first post I was asking why within FS2004 the Waypoint IAF aren't proposed by ATC as transition on the contrary to what's written into FS2004SDK . Obviously I don't care which is the FSX behaviour.Isn't it? Gianfranco
July 24, 201213 yr Sorry. FS9 is broken if the approach type is ILS ATC will only offer transitions based on VOR (well, maybe also NDB, but mostly the only IAFs on navaids use VORs). July 25, 201213 yr Author I verified that FS9 is broken but my question is why?FS2004sdk established a different behaviour. Gianfranco
