July 15, 201213 yr Hi everybody! I am currently not satisfied at all with my computer. Yesterday for example, when I was flying to Rhodes using default scenery, I got 17 FPS (with some lag/stuttering) on final approach (in the NGX). I think this is way too bad for my computer, which is built with the following components: Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth P67 CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4,3 GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler master Hyper 212+ RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB Video Card: Gigabyte GTX560 1024 Mb HDD: Segate 500GB, SATA 6 Gbit/s, 7200 Rpm PSU: Corsair TX 650W Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 I am planning a computer upgrade next month replacing these parts: Case: Cooler master HAF XM CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 w/ four 1200rpm 60,4 cfm fans for push and pull Is this the way to go? Or am I on the wrong track? Should I upgrade something else? ------------------- Some info about my FSX: Planes i fly: Almost only the NGX, sometimes the Maddog or Wilco's Airbuses Addons I use: REX, GEX, UTX, EZDok, Ultimate Traffic, Active sky, Shades Sceneries: Almost only payware addons such as Aerosoft, FSDT, Uk2000 and so on. Tweaks: Right now only venetubo's online tweaking tool. I have tried a whole bunch of tweaks, but I haven't been satisfied with many of them. ------------------ Any help is highly appreciated. What should I upgrade? Am I using too many addons? I really want to be able to fly the NGX without lag Kind regards, Arvid
July 15, 201213 yr With your system, I would recommend getting rid of all the tweaks except maybe highmemfix=1. You need to lower some of your fsx settings. Sounds like you have them close to maxed out. The PMDG 737NGX is not a resource hog but uses more resources than the default. Couple that with EZDok, UTX, ASE, and UT, and you could have a lot of problems with settings too high. Did you set your UTX settings as recommended by NickN, the developer of GEX. It's near the bottom of his article Setting Up FSX and Tuning It. Some of those settings will take up a lot of resources if not properly set. Cars and lights are two of the biggest resource hogs with UTX. As NickN recommends, cars should be turned off in FSX and limited in UTX. Try disabling UTX on a flight and see if it improves fps. I use moderate settings with my i-7 2600K system and I always have lower fps when flying the PMDG737 in heavy weather. I have my frame setting set to unlimited and fps will usually drop down into the upper 20's depending on the view. I doubt replacing your CPU cooler will help much but the more fans running the better for reducing heat. Best regards, Jim
July 15, 201213 yr Hardware: 1. Obviously changing case is not going to give you more FPS, but you should if you think it's clustered, bad airflow can cause overheating issues. If you want me to recommend you a good quality case with excellent airflow then go for Corsair 400R Carbide, it's 100 dolars and I have it, totally worth the money. 2. You suggested buying Corsair H100. In first place, are you having CPU temperature issues? I guess not, and then the only other reason to buy it is overclocking; if you really wanna do it then go ahead and buy it, but ocing will get you 5-10 extra FPS on best case scenario. The best upgrade I could think of is your GPU and/or mobo, but it won't make such a difference on FSX. --- Software: You have to research a lot in order to get your FSX optimised to the max. I recommend you do since you will find useful links that will give you many more FPS. Also, it seems you got a lot of addons, you could try disabling one or two at a time and see how much FPS improvement you get. You don't need to remove your FSX.cfg tweaks, but just experiment. Don't be afraid of lowering FSX graphics settings, it's not a massive quality decrease, but will increase your FPS. As Jim said, vehicles and their lights sure look cool, but take a lot of FPS.

I have now tuned UTX according to NickN's guide. I will try these settings on a flight tomorrow. I will also try to lower my sliders a bit. I will report back. Hardware: 1. Thanks for your answer! 1. I know that. Although I won't be able to fit an H100 (Push and pull) in my current case. Also, my current case has no good cable management which really messes up the inside of the case. So a new case is on my list, even though it won't give me any higher frames :P 2. Hmm. Actually, I'm doing pretty well on the temps. I overclocked to 4,7GHz today and the temps never exceeded 75 degrees Celsius during prime 95. I probably won't get the H100 after all. You don't happen to have any tweaking links you can share? I've been looking for ages without finding anything that really helped :P As I said above, I will lower some sliders and report back! :) Regards

July 16, 201213 yr @Air France: Yes, with some FSX tweaking it will run very well. You don't happen to have any tweaking links you can share? I've been looking for ages without finding anything that really helped Some useful links, probably not everything I've used, but this is what I found on my history: http://www.simforums...topic29041.html http://simhq.com/for...tml#Post3263917 http://uk.gamespot.c...=m-100-25600394 http://www.mycockpit...fferPools-Tweak Remember tweaking FSX takes some time, might be frustrating and boring, but it is rewarding at last, you can get 10-20 extra fps by doing it.

July 18, 201213 yr Author Hi! Today i made two tests with my freshly tweaked FSX using the NGX, and i want to share the results. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Test 1: Location: London Heathrow Airport, Aerosoft scenery Flight: Took off from 09R, turned back to the airport, made a low pass above the terminals at 300ft, turned around and landed on 09L. See pic: FPS: I benchmarked the FPS with Fraps. I got the following results Min: 11 Max: 31 Avg: 24,510 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Test 2: Location: Faro, Scenery by Aerosoft. Flight: Took off from runway 28, turned right back towards the airport, made a low pass att 200ft, turned around again and landed on runway 28. FPS: Min: 14 Max: 31 Avg: 26,319 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conclusion: Pretty happy after all. The FPS aren't great. But I barley noticed any lag, so I'm already feeling better about my FSX. I did put the sliders down a bit, to around 50-75% on the scenery tab. I also tweaked using Word Not Allowed's guide, as well as the links Santi871 sent me. Any input? Can I max out my FSX even better? Regards,
July 18, 201213 yr There are couple of things I felt eats up FPS but doesn't retun much. 1) Water. I use Water 2 low. Anything higher doesn't add much..in fact I don't care for the water reflection/shine... and that eats up frames. 2) I like bloom but its way too expensive. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
