June 1, 200422 yr Hi, I had a problem last weekend. The computer had a problem with thunderstorm and one file was corrupted. I decide to make format C: and then everything worked. However I installed FS 2004 and I got this message: YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO INSTALL NEW FILES ON THIS COMPUTER. PLEASE HAVE AN ADMINISTRATOR LOG ON TO COMPLETE THE INSTALATION. Well, every time I open FS 2004 the message appears. I thought maybe it is coming from some addons, and I decided to uninstall addons. It continues. Then I uninstalled FS itself and reinstalled it again. The message appeared again. Well, I thought maybe was from the windows XP professional, so I did 4 formats one after each other to solve the problem. It seems that when I log off to choose administrator account there is no option, except in safe mode: there I can log in in two ways: administrator and harpsi. After the last format I installed FS. No addons, no planes, nothing. Immediately the message appears. I really don
June 1, 200422 yr Run safe mode and log in as admin. Now give your account local admin rights. Then reboot and log in normally. See if it happens then.Anyway, do you mean you had a problem with a power surge? If so, then it is very likely that you might have a hardware problem. Strange bugs might be the beginning of a hard drive failure. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
June 1, 200422 yr Hi, With safe mode it happens the same with FS 2004. ANd it is strange, I have adminitrator rights in my normal account, but at the same time the message is always displaying. Hardware? Maybe not, otherwise there would have been other problems. It is just FS 2004 without any addon.Solutions?coimbra
June 1, 200422 yr Don't dismiss the hardware as not the cause of the problem. I have seen power surges do strange things to PC equipment. You would think that if the PC survived, that it would be ok, but I have seen it take two weeks for problems to fully surface. Knowing more about the original problem might help. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
June 1, 200422 yr Try reinstalling FS2004 in the same location as before. If you have replacement textures, make sure everything is backed up. If you have addon's such as mesh and aircraft, those should be fine, as MS won't touch files that are not part of the original install.Your problem is most likely due to the SID of your admin account. Before you had an issue, your install created a security identifier for the account. This number is a unique number. Microsoft notes the SID of the "owner" who installs the program, and also any SID's that have admin rights. When you reinstalled windows, you got a new SID. The SID that Microsoft Flight Sim has as the "owner/installer" is no longer there, so it doesn't recognize you as the "admin". And since your "administrator/owner" account's SID is not recognized, as being authoratative, then any changes it attempts to make are also not considered authoratative. If you reinstall the program, under the new 'admin', then it will recognize your new SID as the system administrator. As a rule of thumb, due to registry and other issues, if you reinstall an operating system, you usually have to reinstall the software, even if it resides on a different drive.See if that helps
June 1, 200422 yr Coimbra:Try the following before re-installing FS:<< Follow instructions at your own risk >>---------------------------------------------------------------------Option 1 - Over-ride user account barrier: To do this, you MUST have Windows XP Pro installed on your computer. A: Boot up into normal mode B: Log-off (Start -- Logoff -- Logoff) C: At the login screen press CTRL + ALT + DEL !TWICE! to bring up a loin box D: At the login box type Administrator as the username --> there is no password E: Once logged in; proceed to option 2 in my post...<< You can run FS from here, just to see what happens... >>---------------------------------------------------------------------Option 2 - Upgrade your user rights assignment to administrator: To do this, you MUST have Windows XP PRO installed on your computer. << If continuing from Option 1, proceed to step B >> A: Boot up into normal mode B: Open Control Panel (Start -- Control Panel) C1: If you are in category view (purple background) --> Click performance and maintenance -- click Administrative Tools C2: If you are in classic view (white backround) --> Click Administrative Tools D: Once in the Administrative Tools area --> Click computer management E: From there click the + sign next to "Local Users and Groups" F: Click the users folder G: Click on your username... H: Now you can edit your user properties I: It may be wise to review the options in the "General" tab to see that they are good for you - when you're ready go to step J. J: Click the "Member of" tab K: Click the Add button L: Type Administrators in the white-space and click "Check Names" ** You must spell Administrators correctly... ** M: Click OK to add yourself to the Administrators group N: Now your an Admin - have fun :)<< Now try running FS to see if all goes well, if not, try option 3 to see if it will work >>---------------------------------------------------------------------Option 3 - Take ownership of the FS Directory: This is simple enough to do, again, you must have XP Pro (I think) for this to work...) A: Boot up into normal mode B: Navigate to where FS is installed (by default it's C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9) C: On the toolbar click Tools - Folder Options D: In the box click the View tab E: In the window scroll to the VERY BOTTOM and REMOVE the check-box from "Simple file sharing..." F: Now you can take ownership of FS --> right click the FS Directory and click properties G: Click the Security Tab - then click Advanced H: Click the owner tab I: Assign your account (or account user group) as the owner---------------------------------------------------------------------That's it, now you should be able to run FS as normal, if you need any more help, let us know!<< Try instructions at your own risk >>
June 1, 200422 yr What did you format? If you re-formatted your entire drive, reinstalled XP Pro, and re-installed FS, then it's not a SID issue. Are you using the "welcome screen"? Funky things can happen with that and rights assignments.Go into control panel/user accounts and click "change the way users log onto this computer". Unselect welcome screen. When you reboot, you will have the standard user name/pass box. Type Administrator and hit enter. You will now be logged in as administrator.I also recommend turning off "simple file sharing".Both these options "assume" things, and you can really screw up the PC. You're better off doing it all manually.BTW, Since the program installed fine, but gets that error when you run FS9, I believe the problem is object access rights for the registry. I don't know why this error would be happening without looking at the PC. I would turn on failed object access auditing through local policy in the control panel, and see if something shows up when you run FS9.If you are reformatting your drive, but keeping a second drive with FS9 on it, then it could very well be a SID issue. Take ownership of the directory, and re-do the rights to it. If the security tab shows something like "S239-2358320-238342" instead of user names then it could likely be the problem. I hate Windows sometimes...
June 1, 200422 yr HiOk, I tried all 3 points from cpudan80 and the message still appears. I already tried to uninstall the FS but after instalation the same message appeared also. In safe mode also the same. It is strange because it is the first time it happens after format C with the FS ...More solutions?Coimbra

June 1, 200422 yr Coimbra,When you uninstalled FS2K4, did you shut down your system and restart? (this usually cleans up the registry). Then goto the FS2K4 directory and delete anything left over from the uninstall? Then deleted all remnants of FS9.cfg (do a search)? Then reinstalled FS2K4? Make sure your antivirus program is disabled before reinstalling too.Hope this helps!Jim
June 2, 200422 yr Coimbra, Did FS run when you logged on as the Admin account as stated in step one of my previous post? If it didn't that means that FS is not acting properly (but you knew that alread... :) ) - since that is the default admin account, it can, in theory, do anything to the computer. I would reccomend uninstalling / reinstalling FS under the administrator account as stated in option 1 of my post. I'm looking in the MS KB now - will let you know if I find anything intersting.
June 2, 200422 yr Take a look at thishttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=enThe patch doesn't seem to be what you need - but at this point - it could be worth a try...
