Need opinions on Vertigo Studios model 75 Stearman

Featured Replies

WH, Dean knows that the VS forums are down, TBH they have been for a couple of weeks, the Main hosts server has been hacked and they are struggling to rebuild it.

Bruce

Thanks.  I didn't see any forums link on the main site, so I just assumed it didn't exist anymore.

The forums are up, but the missing textures are still not available.

Regardless, I purchased the Stearman Vol II package and have created an another ticker with regards to the navigation lights on the float model.  Others have reported the same issue in the forum, but there is no apparent fix or patch in the works.

Navigation lights on the float model , what is the reported problem ?

They are always 'on' and the cockpit switch does nothing.

My standard flight is a cold start, confirmed by the light switch on the right side of the cockpit being 'off'.  Regardless of the setting of the switch for the navigation lights, the navigation lights are 'on' and nothing I do will turn them 'off."  The other switches perform as expected, and none of the other Stearman models have this lighting issue.

This was first reported in the forums on 2/6/2013, and no resolution as of 2/17/2013.

Thanks, CJ.

The new models fixed it.  If you're old enough to drink, I'd buy ya' a beer.

Now, if only we can located the additional texture set for Vol. 1....

Glad that fixes it , this set of models wasnt in the released version for some reason though they were the final set produced , i will let Dean know there is a solution to this issue.

Cant help with textures more than mentioning that if the maximum texture resolution isnt set at 4096 X 4096 in the FSX.cfg then folks are seeing compressed textures, 16 X compression in the case having it set at 1024. If fuzzy graphics are an issue this is one sure way to clear that up. Best CJ PS i am old enough that i probably shouldn't drink ...

LOL.  Good response.

I have no issues with the current 4096 X 4096.  My references is to this from the Stearman manual:

CUSTOM AIRCRAFT PAINT SCHEMES CONTINUED...

The Aircraft.cfg has these listed, but they show up as missing texture maps because they are to be installed separately.  I've been trying for the last seven days to locate these, but no luck.  I don't know if these were lost when the forum was hacked, or what is going on.

Uh, oh. Spoke too soon.

Chuck, the new model solved the issue with the Nav lights but it looks like a new issue has surfaced.

When adding the passenger with Shift+E+3, the passenger shows in the external views but not from the VC. Unlike the other models, you cannot see the back of passenger's head from the pilot's seat.

My pleasure, CJ. Hope I wasn't too much of a pest. I appreciate all that you and Bruce have done.

Bruce sent me the missing textures, and they really look great. I'll update my support ticket so he can close it.

The latest model files do the trick. I can now see the back of my passenger.

There is one last minor issue I just caught. Ctrl+E+4 should control the goggles for the passenger, but that doesn't seem to work with the last model files. Not a big deal, but I thought you should know.

BTW - in case you are wondering - this reminds me of the testing I did for MAAM on solving the problems with their Avenger gauges. I'm glad I could be of assistance.

Cheers

Whoops. My bad. There is no problem with the passenger goggles. I got the command wrong. It's not Ctrl+E+4, but instead Shift+E+5. All is well. Thanks again for the updated model.

  • 1 year later...

A year from the last post, and the link in the manual still doesn't work, neither does the Crunchie livery seem to be available.

I bought the aircraft this week and am quite enjoying it, though I do have a couple of queries:

(i) The rear cockpit only has very limited instrumentation - no artificial horizon, turn and slip indicator, VSI or clock. Is this really correct? I'd have thought that whether this panel was for the instructor or the pupil a fuller panel would be fitted, and that in modern rebuilds there would certainly be more.

(ii) The notes say that the engine should be stopped using the idle cut off switch leaving the fuel valve on, but there is no idle cut off switch, only the fuel valve, magnetos and mixture controls.

Overall I'd agree with the views expressed above, and I'm glad I bought it as part of a Just Flight offer rather than paying full price.
