I flew R/C choppers for a long time too, but am not exactly pleased with X-Plane chopper flying either. I don't know how to decribe it, but I just feel I'm never in the chopper. I'm just watching it zip around! The MSFS R-22 seems to have the "feel" about it, but I did modify the cyclic files last year for it. Since then, my HD went south, so no choppers for me...Do take note, that X-Plane helicopter flying turns from good to bad, to in between, depending on new versions which are monthly now. I tend to keep up with all the lastest what does work, and what doesn't work & why........at X-Plane org.L.Adamson

Here's what happens when you don't take lessons in real life. Pretty funny.http://media.ebaumsworld.com/drinkandfly.wmv

And rudder pedals are a good thing to have for flying the sim helios... a very good thing to have.Greg

Bazz,The best success I had flying helos in MSFS was with an excellent Bell 47 some French guy made. You do have to have rudder pedals as well to have any hope IMHO.Cheers,Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern AustraliaMy "Around the World 4" flight pagehttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercbp/fly...e%20World_5.htm

I agree with the need for good controllers. I have the whole CH rig - pro throttle, pro pedals, and the combatstick.Does anyone have Force Feedback stick ?? How well does it work with the helos in FS? Any kind of feedback would be nice and make the helos easier to control.

One of the easiest to fly is the biggest - the Erikson Skycrane - comes with various versions as well as left and right hand cockpit. I think you can get it at Hovercontrol. Dave

Bob,Great post, with a lot of good information!>>Even in the dead of summer, I flew with a glove on my cyclic hand. It dampened out some of the hand motion. You might try that in the sim.<As new helo students do in the real aircraft, when simming we tend to focus very close in and often times, 'right between our virtual feet'.<

Barry,These are the things I think are necessary to make flying helicopters in FS9 possible - and infinitely more fun!- A fast computer. Fluid frame rates are critical because there simply can't be any delay between what you see and your reaction (beyond that which occurs in your brain ;-))- Two good joysticks and rudder pedals.- TrackIR - the only way to get the situational awareness you really need to swivel your chopper to a good landing. That's it! Good luckDavid
