Realism aside, remember that PMDG did not model icing effects (like flight dynamic changes or visible ice layers) because of the way FSX does them. So technically, you never need to use Anti-Ice, but it's still nice to use the procedures anyway.

I guess they didn't like how it performed on the JS41 as the visual effect at least were modeled.

From memory it wasn't visually modelled on the NGX because they are limited by animations, which the icing effect requires. the J41 consumes much less animations which is why it has the icing effect along with others (rain effect etc).
