July 28, 201213 yr A new behavior has occured in that the default 2D panel view of the Cessna does not load properly. What does load is a greyish blob representative of a virtual cockpit view as if you were looking above. Attempts to toggle the global view do not work as the screen flickers back to the virtual view without the panel. I have extracted the files from the FS2004 install disks 1 and 2 and copied back into my FS folder where applicable as well as copying the gauges back into the gauges folder. I deleted my FS9.cfg file and let the sim rebuild it, but with no joy. Short of reinstalling FS2004, is there another workaround or perhaps something I am overlooking? All was well earlier in the week when last used, and no changes, additions or deletions were made to the sim. Thanks Dom
July 28, 201213 yr Hi Dom. Is this happening with all aircraft or just the (default?) Cessna? Does the outside the aircraft scenery look normal, you know, AI aircraft, terrain, autogen buildings etc.? Mel
July 28, 201213 yr Author Hi Mel and thanks for the response. This is happening with all aircraft. All else outside scenery, AI etc appear normal when cycling the views. I cannot select the instrument panel global view on and have it remain checked. If I open a new view window, for example spot view or cockpit view, then I am able to check the global view and the 2d panel will display in the main window. Close the new view window, and the 2d panel disappears and reverts back. BTW, i neglected to mention I am on Windows 7 64 bit. I also have FSX installed on a separate drive and that displays correctly. I initially thought that there was some sort of conflict but that does not seem to be the dase. Looking forward to any more help, Dom
July 28, 201213 yr I don't have W7 myself, but from what I have learned, even though you said that you had FS9 build a new cfg file it may be that W7 (UAC, permissions, etc.) may not be allowing the rebuild to be successful. If I remember correctly (at my age, . . getting more of an if everyday!) W7 may store a copy of FS9.cfg and be reinstating that copy (bad one) when you try to rebuild a new one which would of course leave you with the same problems. Sorry I would know myself where that copy would be located. The FS9.cfg seems like the most likely cause of your problem since it is global - all aircraft, but not scenery our graphics in general. Something you could also check. If you have the FS9.1 update you might check your Modules folder and see that all of the MS stock modules have the version tag: 9.01.040901.01 or if no update: 9.00.030612.02. Correct - no FS9 and FSX conflicts. especially on different drives. One last thought for now is that you may wish to manually edit the FS9.cfg file then save, start FS9, do nothing, shut down and then inspect your FS9.cfg file to see if your edits are still present. If necessary I can post a stock FS9.cfg file for you or PM it to you. You will still have to edit a few parts to match your system and set up. In the end though, I think it is a W7 permissions issue with rebuilding the FS9.cfg file. Absolutely, positively, with out a doubt, . . . maybe. Seriously the only two areas I can think of are a changed or modified modules / .dll file or the FS9.cfg file. I hope this going to help you get your problem fixed. Best regards, Mel
July 28, 201213 yr For Win7 set up a shortcut to fs9.exe. Set the shortcut property to Run Admin (program level access as opposed to user level access). See if you can then get a good rebuild of FS9.cfg. In Win 7 disabling UAC does not turn off some protections as it did in previous Win versions.
July 28, 201213 yr Author Mel and Ronzie, I have tried all suggestions with no luck. The bmp "global" illustrates the default Cessna C182 panel as it opens. The bmp "main panel" illustrates the default Cessna C182 panel with global on and main panels checked. I have been at this all day and am ready to just re-install FS9. Regarding the panel folders of the aircraft, I even deleted the references to the virtual cockpit and had the sam result as you see. Would you say that the install is corrupted at this point beyond repair? Dom
July 29, 201213 yr From the look of things I think your view options setting are messed up: check to see if your settings in the Views - view options resemble mine. Mel
