Weather Application

Featured Replies

I am looking for a weather add-on that will allow me to see the weather conditions at my departure and arrival airports before I take off so I can plan better. If it can give me enroute data as well that would be even better. What I am looking for is something that reads the downloaded real weather, not something that creates weather. Payware or freeware. Amy ideas? Thanks.Dave Spurlock

>Active Sky 2004 will do this and a whole lot more!Oh yea, AS2004 is the way to go.

Did anyone mention Activesky2004 :)You'll find most people in here, will reccomend that one, it's the only way to go. I use it EVERY time I'm ingame.

Okay, I took the hint and purchased ActiveSky2004. :-) It was exactly as advertised and did everything I was looking for and more. Thanks for the clue.Dave Spurlock

I've read elsewhere in various posts that ActiveSky and the PMDG products are not fully compatible, for techie reasons I probably won't understand.Anyone care to share an opinion on that here?I was looking at the add-on about three weeks ago, but I went searching and saw that people had problems with it when using PMDG aircraft, so didn't see any value in taking the risk.Shame really. I was quite keen.CheersTim

Many other users are using the 2 products successfully. Remember that in any forum you usually see only the problems, not the successes.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I use the PMDG 1900 and the 737 6/7/8/900, combined with ActiveSky, with no problems whatsoever. I know many others do as well. Don't hesitate to buy because of that reason. I also use a ton of other addons from other companies, and no problems with those either.

Interesting......thanks for the comments. On the post I am referring to (don't ask me which one, I read heaps) a comment was made by someone from PMDG that the reason their products don't always work with ActiveSky are because the two did not come together during development of, therefore some will work and due to the vagaries of PC's, some won't.Now, I'm not looking for an argument here - what you say makes perfect sense, however what was in the referred-to post made good sense as well!As it stands, I can't say I'm prepared to risk hard-earned $$$ buying ActiveSky without some independent reviewer looking at these issues and advising either way.PMDG have an awesome product, and from what I hear ActiveSky do as well. I would get both if I knew it would work on my machine. Thanks for your input. We've probably just about done this subject.CheersTim

The only issue I've ever seen happen between the PMDG 737NG and AS2004 is that the autopilot can sometimes disconnect due to FS2004's wild wind shifts or because of wake turbulence. The thing is, the real aircraft will probably disconnect under these conditions as well! It's not a big deal and honestly since the AS2004 MR updates I haven't seen it happen once. The NG actually works better when you have a detailed forecast for winds to enter into the FMC, which AS2004 gives you.The B1900 has no such issue because it's not a custom programmed autopilot...
