August 13, 201213 yr I've only managed one trip down to the Canary Islands this year and was quite looking forward to this trip. So with just a touch over twenty tonnes of fuel loaded, doors closed and everybody strapped in we had a short wait for taxi clearance. Pushback and ready to start the taxi checklist - a few heavies in the background on Pier C of Terminal 1 including Emirates A380. It is a short taxi down to runway 5R down pass the Aviation Viewing Park. Cleared for takeoff and rotating at around 145kts. (Be nice to be able to add a little cabin window around this view!) The weather is clear most of the way south with Lanzarote reporting a 17kts wind from the east and temperatures of 35 deg C. Lanzarote comes into view nearly four hours or so after leaving Manchester. There has been quite a head wind for most of the flight which has slowed the 757 down a little. The view from Lanzarote Tower as we are cleared to approach on runway 03. A few minutes later we are on Stand 1 and begin the preparations for the return leg. Top the fuel up to twenty tonnes, load a 134 passengers along with 194 bags...not to mention clean the cabin! We pushback two minutes early and taxi to 03 for our departure North. Quite a few tired souls on-board after a week or two's holiday. With a scheduled arrival back at Manchester of 11pm (BST) I hope they have booked tomorrow of work! A nice shot of the town of Arrecife. We are soon up to our cruising altitude of FL380 and handed over to Casablanca Centre as we skirt the west African coast while the sun begins to set. It is certainly a little cooler in Manchester than it was in Lanzarote with the current temperature around 17 Deg C. The wind is favouring an approach to 5R currently with cloud at 2800ft and 4000ft and visability holding at ten miles. As we come through Mid Wales ATC start to position is for the approach. All set for landing... Stand 6 is allocated to Fly UK at Manchester and very soon we pull up and begin the shut-down check-list while the passengers disembark. So with just under three hundred passengers carried, twenty two tonnes of fuel burned and over three thousand miles travelled we are back at base. Software used.
