August 15, 201213 yr Hello MCE users So i have now installed product and trying out the demo. I have made some considerable progress in evaluating it for my use and have it ( i think) set up quite well. Mainly i have it working along side VoxATC using same Ivona voice (very nice). That seems fine which was a concern of mine. I have had a few concerns/questions which i hope someone might be able to help me with. 1. With the MCE menu screen displayed and with FSX main screen up and running my F/O can be heard saying things to do with low speed, close to stall and various remarks that are not relevent as im not even in flight. Although some are funny like 'Don't put your stress on me'. Is this normal to hear before a flight has even started? 2. It seems MCE works alot better with the aircraft it has been fully programmed for, Level D 767, PMDG737 etc. I used the Aerosoft A320 last night and F/O did not set Alt as instructed. He said he had but it was not being adjusted. He also would not do some other things like set parking break. In Carenado 210 he would not set cowl flaps and gave an answer not relevent to instruction. But other instructions have gone very well and he has done as instructed ( like setting radios). As i don't have any of the specific aircraft that MCE works fully with am i experiencing some limitations of this by use of maybe generic commands that my aircraft don't fully interact with MCE by? 3. Some times F/O comes out with answers that don't make sense to what i've said. I had to disable bringing up menus option as they kept appearing occasionally when i did'nt ask for them. I have been through all the speech training and i am already using VoxATC (without issues) so have a well used profile for learning my voice. Will these issues gradually disappear the more i use MCE? Enjoying MCE and i hope to purchase if i can get some issues eradicated and nice to see that its still supported and updated. Thanks for any suggestions Kind Regards Simon.
August 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Simon, 1. Although some are funny like 'Don't put your stress on me'. Is this normal to hear before a flight has even started? I know the FO can be stressed sometime, especially with a new Pilot So, here is what you can say to stop him 'nagging' To ask Co-pilot to stop nagging (Allows you to keep the call-outs feature) please (optional) co-pilot (optional Any of the following sentences please stop nagging no more nagging I don't need your comments refrain from nagging can you please keep quiet you're talking too much can you leave me alone leave me alone stop the nagging stop nagging stop pestering stop bothering me keep quiet keep silent If that doesn't sort him then there is an option in the mce.in file to stop him nagging totally! Just change this option to a 1 (DisableNagging=1) . The ini file is is .....Appdata....Roaming..Multi Crew Experience. (this is a hidden folder BTW) 2. Your're right, the aircraft that are 'fully' supported by MCE will work better. But MCE will work with most aircraft providing the aircraft designer has used 'standard' FS coding otherwise MCE has no way of knowing what to do. For example I fly using the Carendo C208B, MCE works 99%, but MCE doen't know about the 'cont ignition switch' so my FO can't control it. Now, as the FS++ team have had many years experience of working with the FS code they are managing to get more aircraft to have more and better functionalilty, even without an SDK! Now that is good, trust me! What until September there are some very good surprises coming our way 3. Some times F/O comes out with answers that don't make sense to what i've said. I find that sometimes he will pick up back ground noise and responds to that. If you have read another thread here you will see the the FO responses even when you 'exhale' Also what I found to be very helpful was to fit one of those noise reducer 'thingys!' to the mic, since I have fitted that I've had no real issues, well apart from my 'heavy breathing' Let us know how it goes Clive Joy
August 15, 201213 yr Author Hello I've just come off a flight from Rotterdam to Manchester in AirbusX. Still having some issues with F/O not understanding my instructions (even me saying descent checks, which i thought would be routine ) He's even getting annoyed with me when i've asked a reasonable question ( Wants to get off on when landed etc :o )Mind, i did cough and he asked if i was alright : ) Once again no problems with using VoxATC. It understands me fine. I lost contact with MCE nearing Manchester, it shutdown for some reason ( Had to go into win mode to restart). Considering some of the unreliable problems with Aerosofts A320 in last few years there might be an issue with the way its programmed with regards to its effect in how MCE works with it. Perhaps. I will try and load up a default aircraft and see if that is any better. Only got one more day left with demo. I know speech recognition is'nt perfect and i wonder if anyone else has occasional issues like i've had. Still interested in this as when it works its great. Just wondering how much of these problems are down to me. Thanks for the reply Kind Regards Simon.
August 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member Simon, Some people were having problems with MCE shutdown, but the latest update, should have resolved that issues. The people that were having that issue have now reported all was OK. What other programs have you running along with FSX and MCE, one of these might be causing the shutdown problem! Are you running the latest version? http://www.multicrewxp.com/mce.zip On the 'checklist' tab of MCE what does the 'active checklist path' say? Clive Joy
August 16, 201213 yr Author Hi Thanks for reply. I only had MCE disconnect once in flight and was able to restart whilst still flying by switching to windows mode. I run EZCA and shade with previously mentioned VoxATC and various voices (Ivona, Voxpop) Memory does not seem to be a problem (8 Gig) Multi Crew Experience\CHKLIsts\Generic_Airbus_Jet_check.txt is what the path says for AirbusX A320 but i see there is a specific A320 checklist there so is it worth trying that? Trouble is my time limit is up for demo, can i still check certain functions? I am running latest update which i believe is 2.4.9.4. I got it from MCE webpage. Kind Regards Simon.
August 16, 201213 yr Commercial Member Simon When the Demo expires, you will be able to see the speech recognised and displayed, but FO won't execute any of the commands. The (FS) user interface voice control feature will continue to be usable (free) for a number of days. Clive Joy
August 16, 201213 yr Author Hi I got the menu up telling me demo had expired but still managed to get couple more goes out of it until it definetly stopped working for me just recently. Must have been some sort of pre-warning. Anyway, i was able to get various aircraft tested at the gate and was getting much better response with what F/O would do. AirbusX does struggle with quite a few commands in comparison i've found. Default aircraft being a good test for voice commands. Carenado not bad either. Twin Otter less so but still good. I still have not used most of what this offers namely AES and Cabin crew comms but i'm sure it would be ok. I will probably purchase over weekend or so. Thanks Clive for your advice and answers over last few days. Looking forward to getting into this more in future flights. Kind Regards Simon.
August 16, 201213 yr Commercial Member Simon, No problem. MCE is good and I'm not just saying that . I've been 'simming' for to many years and I would not support something I didn't think was worthy and the contribution it adds to FS. See you aboard very soon, there's plenty more to come in the MCE world. Clive Joy
