August 21, 201213 yr Greetings fellow simmers.... I have a generic question regarding performance in FSX. I do a lot of flying in Washington State in FSX. When I fly outside of the Seattle area my performance goes up. When I fly in the Seattle area the performance goes down. Now I understand and accept this as true because there is more detail in the Seattle area than in the rest of Washington state. However, the thing I do not understand is when I adjust sliders in my settings to find the sweet spot the performance never changes. When I set my sliders full left I would expect the performance to go up. When I set the sliders full right I would expect the performance to go down. However, my experience is there is no difference in the performance. So this tells me there is something in the scenery that might be hogging the resources? I do have some addon scenery form Orbx (Orcas, Annecortes, Skagit, Harvey & Hoqium + the NA Pacific Northwest). I have turned off features in these sceneries and not seen a difference. I have turned off some of them in the scenery addon folder and not much difference. So now to my question after my long winded explanation of what is going on. Has anyone else experienced what I have described? Does anyone have some ideas for me to try to gain a bit more performance. I also understand performance can be related to the type of airplane I am flying (Carenado CT182T versus a Stock Piper Cub). I am running Windows 7, Intel Core i5, 8 Gig Ram, etc..... It is not top of the line, but it runs really well outside of the Seattle Area.... Thank you all in advance for your ideas and help with this. Happy landings, Kevin
August 21, 201213 yr FTX/Orbx released a nice tool that allows you to switch off the "night lighting" effects during the day. Apparently they are pooled by FSX even during the day. August 21, 201213 yr The day/night switch does make a difference overall but I have never had the experience you mention, as I move my sliders to the left especially a couple of notches on autogen I see immediate increases in performance.
