I've experienced exactly the same error before.

 

As stated in the link above, this is likely to be caused by an incorrect un-installation and can be solved by fixing the registry. You can either manually fix it or use ccleaner.

..and asking for a "best location" when you haven't posted your system hardware specs makes it kinda hard for us to answer, doesn't it? :smile:

 

 

In reality - anywhere else but default, Ralph, so - not in C:\Program Files (x86)\, and preferably on another drive if you have one.
