I just purchased RC 4.3. I'm trying to install it, but I can't proceed because I can't locate the required ADVDISP/ShowText file. It refers you to Pete Dawson's website, but I've searched it from top to bottom repeatedly and can't find any file using that name. If it's integrated with another file now, can you please tell me which one?

 

I've embarrassed myself this way before - by searching and failing to find something and then find out it was right in front of me... Well, to avoid that, I did four searches visually of Mr. Dawson's website - if the ADVDISP file is there, I can't see it. :blush:

 

I also Google'd the file name - the only websites that offered the file looked suspicious at best. :ph34r: I declined to download it from them...

 

Finally, I came here and used "ADVDISP/ShowText" and "ADVDISP" as search queries on this forum. The latter pulled up 3 pages of results, but none of them addressed this particular problem.

 

Why the long story? I wanted to tell anyone who takes the time to help me that I wasn't being lazy - I did try to find the file. I'm concerned because no one else reports the same problem. I missing something somehow... :wacko:

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I am missing something that's right under my nose, please forgive me. The old saying "if it was a snake, you'd be dead now" seems particularly appropriate right now...

Neither are needed to "proceed" with RCV4 installation, nor even to run it. You only need an up to date FSUIPC installed (3.999 or 4.852).

 

ADVDISP is no longer used and won't run in any case on anything later than FS9. As explained in the FSUIPC documentation, very near the beginning, its functionality is replaced by improved facilities built into FSUIPC. If you want to use ShowText instead you don't even need those.

 

ShowText is available in the Download Links section of my Support Forum, links to which are provided all over the place including the FSUIPC documentation and on-screen in FSUIPC options.

The name is "Dowson" not "Dawson", and your search techniques evidently need refining if you've missed all the subforum sections at the very beginning! ;-)
