"Installing theme" takes several minutes

Featured Replies

When I start AS2012 and build a flightplan, I'm asked "Would like to install weather-influenced graphics based on your new route average weather conditions". Choices are Install AS2012 Graphics or Install Snapshot Graphics. The Users Guide recommends the first one.

When I select it, it takes a full 3+ minutes to complete the theme installation. Is this normal? I'm running on some pretty serious hardware.

Not a big deal, I guess, but I thought I'd ask just in case I've configured something wrong. .

Thanks in advance!

Everytime you install a new theme (textures) AS builds the files from scratch so it can take a bit of time to compile them especially if your using texture resolutions above 1024.

Thanks Dave. So every time I start AS, it "builds a (new/custom) theme" based on the existing/selected weather?

I had this same concern when I got AS2012 and it was annoying. The speed of your rig does not affect this. However under weather options you should look in the menu "Startup and General". In that menu pane there is a check item "Post-Plan Graphics Install Prompt.

If you don't want that long install every time you set a new flight plan UNCHECK that item and when you load a new plan it will not prompt you for install graphics.

Hope this helps

You can also pre select themes and save them as snapshots - then when you load "weather influenced" it is much faster. However, this option takes considerably more disk space.
