Programming FMC altitudes

Featured Replies

I am setting up for my arrival into KLAX at waypoint GRAMM. It has a hard ceiling and floor restriction of 17,000 and FL210. How do I enter these into the FMC? It only ready has a proper entry at RIIVR but I did not enter it. It shows as "12000 14000"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have about 2 hours till I reach this point but would like to make sure I have it input a little a head of time.

Thanks for the help!

The you have plenty of time to dig into the manuals that came with the product...specifically...PMDG-NGX-FCOMv2 11.31.21 Speed/Altitude Restrictions (pp 871)....

""Altitude restrictions that are between two altitudes are displayed with the lower limit first, followed by a suffix letter A, then the upper limit, followed by a suffix letter B (example: 220A240B)""

A decent set of SIDSTAR proceedures like those available from Navigraph (updated in line with RL) are available to you at a small additional cost & should already contain the precoded SID/STAR procedures:

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply. Looking at those manuals can be daunting at first glance. It is little easier when you have help. :P LOL.

Agreed - unfortunately the don't come with the useful indexing on the left side of the pdf window like their RW counterparts - that makes searching rather tiresome. Every minute you spend getting your head around where all the chapters sit inside them is a minute well spent IMVHO...saves trawling through endless posts full of duff info on fora.

Enjoy the RIIVR Arrival...it can be quite 'slippery'!

I don't think it is possible to enter the double restrictions manually, and the RIIVR is one of many procedures that aren't quite right in the Navigraph data. Every time I update the AIRAC I go in and manually correct it. The other option would be to enter the "at or below" half in the FMS, and set your MCP altitude to the "at or above" altitude to make sure you don't bust it.

It is possible on the LEGs Pages of the CDU...otherwise I would not have quoted or referenced from the manual that came with the product & it is also possible to 'write' or 'code' this into a SIDSTAR file.

Might be worth raising a support ticket with Navigraph then...& they would probably be able to fix any issues for the next cycle.

On the subject of US SIDSTAR procedures do an AVSIM file search for 'Dan Downs' - he has been creating US SIDSTAR files for several years now & they are of very high quality:

Granted the latest set are a few months old now but they are still a great free utility.

Anybody spoke to Dan recently? I hope he is ok.

Sorry, I thought I remembered Ryan or someone else reliable saying that couldn't be done manually. I tried before and got an error, but I just tried it and can confirm you can.

I've posted a few issues in their forum before, and gotten no response. From seeing replies to others they seem to take the attitude that "that's the data we got from our source, so it is what it is." Which they can do, since they know they're the only game in town. Except now Aerosoft is going to be selling the data too, so we'll see if that's any better or causes a change at Navigraph.

As far as I know block altitudes are not actually possible for pilot-entry. We tried this in the real airplane during testing and it gave invalid entry.
