June 24, 200421 yr Yes you can. In fact, I encourage it. Microsoft FS2004 will allow more than one traffic.bgl. UT will warn you if it notices more than one traffic .bgl file, but It's informational only.I use UT for the commercial flights and uncheck all of the GA. I use Marcus' tool to generate my GA.One advantage of GA-Traffic over UT, is that UT only uses the default planes. GA-Traffic can use not only your default planes (and allow you to compress their textures to be lighter on the frame rates), but will scan your disk for any installed aircraft you have and let you use those. You can exclude certain planes, like your really detailed Piper Meridan, or other payware plane, and download some low poly planes to act as your AI. You get much more variety that way. In fact, I have a bunch of Abacus planes, some that go back to FS2000, that have found new life as AI planes.
June 25, 200421 yr Author Will, many thanks for your post and comments. This is my favorite reading here. Few more tips please:>As far as AFCAD's go, to be honest, I prefer the defaults. >Don't get me wrong, they are great for my Gibraltar 2004>airport or any other nice addon airports, but unfortunately>with third party AFCAD's I get too much traffic at the major>airports and it kills my frame rates. How do you retain default AFCADs after installation of add-on airports? Also add-on layout does not always match the default one and this info is stored in the AFCAD bgls (correct me if I'm wrong here). The bgls that contain details of the layout and 'traffic' bgls - are they the same files in FS9? >If I lower the trafficpercentage, like many suggest, then I lose >traffic at the smaller regional airports as well. Lowering AI >traffic at KSEA may only kill 20% at KSEA, but kills 80% at KGEG. >And at really small airports not covered by AFCAD, with only 1 or 2>slots, it may make the airport barren. I use default AFCAD's>as a way to artificially lower traffic density is heavy areas,>while allowing for full traffic density in more "frame rate>friendly" areas. Although this is an artificial means of>doing it, and means I have to deal with aircraft disapearing>after landing, I find that easier to live with than 7.0 FPS on>approach to KSEA. Running default AFCAD's allows my traffic>density to stay at 100% and still fly (and more importantly>land) in most areas adequately. What is your AI Traffic (%) setting normally in FS9? Is it 100%?>Reading from the other suggestions about FSNAV, I might have>to try it again. I'm sure a lot has changed since I used it>last for FS98.>If you are talking about FSNAV 3.1 it is not compatible with FS9 yet. Thanks,Dirk.
June 25, 200421 yr I guess we're going to have to get KCI scenery out for us to make this list..lol. Jeff D. Nielsen (KMCI) https://www.twitch.tv/pilotskcx https://discord.io/MaxDutyDay VENGEANCE a8200 Gaming PC: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, 4TB (2TB/2TB) M.2 SSD, Win11 Pro
June 25, 200421 yr Dirk -In comparing some of my downloads to the above list, I noticed that I have aeu6ex.zip....this is an express pack by Scott Wilson (approved by Chris Arrington) that uses only reduced bitmaps of taxiways and runways....I haven't had any problems with fps on a much slower system (AMD1800+/512/Ti4200). June 25, 200421 yr I searched the file library under real_stars, autostar, Chris Wright, but with no success. Does anyone have a specific vile name or site for the real stars and autostar program? Thanks, Steve J.
June 25, 200421 yr Drop me an e-mail and I'll send them to anyone!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
June 25, 200421 yr With Addon airports, you definitely want to use the AFCAD for that airport. Because of differences in building placement, the use of a default AFCAD for a third party airport can result in your traffic parking INSIDE the gate ala..Airplane!I used default AFCAD's simply for default airports. The UT afcads are in the addon scenery/scenery folder, and all have a UT in front of them. But your experience may vary. To get good performance overall throughout, I have settled on Dense Complexity and Dense Autogen. This tends to keep even Queens and the LA basin reasonable. My AI traffic is 100% so that outlying airports will still have commercial traffic, and my weather is set to 100% clouds because I can't use the 2d ones, and the fake 3d ones stand out too much.My system is not a race horse anymore (AMD Athlon 2400+ with an FX5200 Nvidia card, so I take some compromises, and these work best for me)
June 26, 200421 yr I would add the following addons to the list- FSMetar (I. J. Alvarez) simple and efficient on-line weather-download addon- FSRealTime (together with WorldTimeZones). Correct time zones add nice touch to FS environment.- Mentioned in earlier posts PAI packages plus MRAI packages (friendly traffic installer)plus, some utilities that would come into design category:- Mentioned above Lee Swordy's AFCAD- Thomas Molitor's AITM (esp. aircraft editor)- Garrett Hardesty's SimpleAI- Jim Keir's LWMViewer- Christian Fumey's Ground2K4Bye There!..Max.
