June 25, 200421 yr Hey, guys,I'm just now upgrading to FS9, and I'm considering downloading the FSW Highest Clouds Performance set. How's the quality of these clouds? Since weather is one of the main reasons I've decided to upgrade, I'm nervous about sacrificing detail.Could you please post some screenshots of whatever clouds you use, in fair and heavy weather, so that I can compare? Thanks much! :7Mike Tucson, AZ"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"--Mahatma Gandhi
June 25, 200421 yr You will lose a little quality, but the FSW cloud packs still look way better than anything in fs2002 (including FS World). Backup your original textures as per the instructions, in case you want to go back. However, I doubt you will! ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
June 25, 200421 yr Go for it, the loss in quality is minimal, you get more variety of clouds and the gains in performance are well worth the change.Let me give you other suggestion, get used to the weather in FS, and as soon as you are ready try AS2004 it improves the whole weather experience.
June 25, 200421 yr Hiya Mike :)I used to use the FSW clouds but I didn't really think they looked that real so I am now back with the default ones. Like most things in the FS world alot of it comes down to personal perception and preference so just back up your default textures and then mix and match what ever you like until you find a combination that you find most suits your idea of perfection. My FS9 textures are amazing but I cannot for the life of me remember what combination or textures I used so I have backed them up onto CD just in case I need to reinstall FS!
June 25, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Mike, Let's make some clarification here. The clouds available from fsw are the default fs2004 resized with small edit, highest performance v2 is created for having the max performance only, (not quality) with less quality and less details. The fps and fix v2, have almost the same qualitydetails as fs2004 default with better performance. http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWFs2k4fix.htmlTotally New clouds will only be available from fs sky world 2004 http://fsw.simflight.com/fsskyworld2004.htmlThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 25, 200421 yr Mike you did not say what your system specs are but I can tell you no matter default or 3rd party clouds, 3D clouds will need a power hungry machine. I have a 1.9/P4 and it is pitiful. Stutters like crazy especially near large airports. So I now fly with 2d clouds which looks like FS2002. Even upgrading my video card to ATI9600 XT did not help much.Bill
June 26, 200421 yr Hi guys, Thanks much for all the input. I'm running on a P4 2.8 GHz, and just upgraded today to 1 Gig of RAM, so we'll see. And thanks for that clarification, Chris! Mike Tucson, AZ"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"--Mahatma Gandhi
June 27, 200421 yr Hiya Chris :)When is the 2004 Skyworld going to be available? Those screenies on the website look absolutely scrumptious!
