converting older scenery to XP10

Featured Replies

I finally found my old back-up CD's which had scenery for FS2004 and FSX on it I bought years ago. One of them was Portland Intl from FlightZone which was fabulous scenery, but I never could get it to work with FSX. However, with FS2XP it converts beautifully to XP10. All I did was add some static planes with WED. (I may have over done it a little) This scenery is still sold by Flight1 but is no longer supported since the developer is sadly no more. Anyhow, here is what it looks like in XP-10. Im going to add some Spill lighting at some point, if I can figure out how to do it.

Whow!

But has a very nasty drawback... one still has to have FSX installed, or install it again!!!! No way with me!!!!

OTOH, should you find a public share where to place those conversions, I am sure many will get them :-)

No, I no longer have fsx or fs9 installed. Just xp10. If you install fs2xp, it creates a dummy fsx install with which you can install the scenery. Then you run fs2xp and it will convert it and place it in you xp10 custom scenery directory and it works just fine. Not everything converts well, but this one does.

I'd love to share it, but it's copyrighted software and still sold by flight1 so I can not, but if anyone has it already or wants to try it in xp, it does work. So far I've converted a bunch of my fsx and fs9 pay ware I built up over thee years. It's nice to know some of it can still be used. This scenery was my d'ivoire in fs9, but I never could get it to run in fsx. Funny how it works great in xplane 10.

Hi guys, sorry to bring back a one year old thread, but can anyone comment on how good ORBX sceneries look on XPX using the converter?

Hi fsxkitty,

Hit and miss on ORBX conversions to X-Plane. YBRM and NZQN converted very well and look spectacular in XP-10.

YBCS converted, opens up in Overlay without a problem and looks great, but crashes XP-10 with a thud with error messages referring to the DSF file.

Some airports crash FS2XP.

Summary, well worth experimenting if you already have the ORBX airports since the results ,if successful will give some of the best looking scenery around. But if you have to buy just for possible XP-10 conversion, you are gambling with 50-50 odds it will work.
