smaller monitor for checklists, GPS

Featured Replies

I'm running a Dell 21.5" monitor for FSX w/ Radeon 4350 vid card. I'd like to have a smaller (inexpensive) additional monitor for alternately kneeboard items (primarily checklists and navlog) and small GPS window such as below in panel.cfg.

[Window03]

Background_color=0,0,0

size_mm=456,310

window_pos= 0, .60

window_size= 0.200, 0.400

window_size_ratio=1.000

visible=0

ident=GPS/Autopilot

gauge00=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 0,0,456,60

gauge01=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,60,456,240

gauge02=..\..\Maule_M7_260C\panel\Maule_M7_260C!switch_nav_gps, 0,220,30,35

Would run it in portrait orientation. Mimo's look cool but is there something more cost effective? Color repro not a high priority. Mostly legibility for text and GPS buttons.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I would look towards ebay and pick up a small 15 or 17 inch monitor. If you have an iPad then theres an app to turn it into a second screen.

pick up a small 15 or 17 inch monitor

Thanks t_bergman for the suggestion but I don't have room on my desk for a 15 or 17". I saw a Double Sight DS-70U on Newegg for $110. Has anyone tried anything like this on their rig?

mslim,

Have you thought about maybe getting an arm mount like this http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-3-Way-Adjustable-Mount-Bracket/dp/B003L171KW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347553495&sr=8-4&keywords=monitor+mount, that way you can still have a monitor without the footprint it uses.

Do your homework. USB type connections for the video/power have issues when trying to run Eyefinity or Surround from what I have read. 30ms seems awfully slow for nowadays. Guess it depends on what you will be using it for.

I just picked up a 12.1" touchscreen display to use as an optional method to dispaly gauges, GPS, follow map, whatever. I first was gonna go with a 10" but now glad I went with 12": I like the fact it had a good response time, better resolution, touchscreen and a DVI connection instead of a USB. It connects well with my Surround set-up.

Unfortunately, the unit received had problems. Has some RED pixel "noise" or "snow". Think it's just a bad LCD. That's one reason I bought it through Ebay - in case I needed to return it. The distributor I bought from has been really helpful. I should be receiving my exchange unit sometime this week.

For mounting a device as small a 10-12", I went and purchased a universal VESA detachable mount (another thing I liked about the 12" is it had standard 70mm mounting holes in the back), and removed the plastic base. Instead of a huge display arm, which is overkill, I ordered a small universal mount from PanaVise.

Hope that helps,
