June 27, 200421 yr Hi,First of all I would like to thank Milton Shupe, Scott Thomas and Joao Paz for a truly incredible aircraft, their latest release the Howard 500. It really looks magnifcent and I can only imagine how much hard work went into creating this. After installing the Howard 500 I noticed one strange thing, though. Whenever I would go to Forks (S18), the airport of Lago Georender 5, FS9 would crash. This did never happen before and now it suddenly happened regardless of what plane I was using while switching to Forks. Since all I changed since the previous flight from Forks was adding the Howard 500, I decided to remove the plane and its files in the effects folder. After that I could normally teleport to Forks again. So something must be incompatible here. I did not check yet whether it is the plane or its effects files. I am curious to hear if somebody else encountered this problem.Best regards,Henri
June 27, 200421 yr The Howard has the FS9 GPS displayed on the panel. The gps is know to cause crashes when there is conflicts in addon AFCADs, possible due to duplicated AFCADs. I'm guessing that it is the GPS/AFCAD problem that is causing the crash. There was a post about this not too long ago.
June 27, 200421 yr Author This is DEFINITELY it.I just did a test. I went to Sky Harbor (S86) from Georender 6 with the Howard 500. On loading the sim immediately does CTD. This is repeatable. Next, I made a back up of my panel.cfg then removed the references to the GPS in the 2D panel. Guess what...no more problems. I think that theres going to need to be a rework of the panel to fix this IMHO. I have not tested with whether a Reality XP 530 installation would cause same problem. I know that in many instances the Georender airports (of which I own almost all but Orcas) the afcads had to have their altitudes changed to accomodate AI traffic not sinking into the ground...further another copy of the fixed afcad had to be put into the sceneryworld directory of the sim to make things work properly. This was a fix developed by Peter Mcleland, who hangs mostly at flightsim.com boards as well as at fsaddon.com. I dont have this problem if I initially load with the Cessna 172, then switch aircraft. However initial loading with the GPS viewable mounted in the panel of the Howard 500 does cause problems at Georender airports.Eric AND
June 27, 200421 yr I used AFCADs fualt finder, fixed any Fualts in Georender scenery it found. If you like the Georender series Orcas is a must. No sounds but its as good as if not better than the other Georender scenerys. It also fits in to the area covered.
June 27, 200421 yr Author Personally, I think the jumping whales is a bit lame... so no Orcas for me unless those are removable. However no big deal. The AFCAD's are fine. At least the ones of my own creation...pass muster with no problem (no faults found in afcad.)I just tested this again...definitely the GPS in the panel causing this. This isnt the normal GPS of FS9, but a custom gauge that came with the airplane. I intend to fly this on a radio navigation basis anyway, so no GPS on the panel is more than fine with me. The hot buttons are accessable thru the keyboard same as normal, with exception of toggling GPS visibility. If Milton could come up with a little gauge that was JUST the icon toolbar to access the remote gauges and GPS this would be better in my view and solve the problem. But, I leave the solution to the masters...I just express a need.Eric AND
June 27, 200421 yr Ken, Eric,Thanks so much for solving this problem. I have been using other planes having GPS (e.g. AeroSoft's Katana DA-20) with GeoRender 5 without a problem, so I would never have expected this. I will try to replace the original GPS by the RealityXP GNS530, this should cure the problems. I will also look at the AFCAD.Thanks again.Best regards,Henri
June 27, 200421 yr The problem is: This aircraft ha the GPS DISPLAYED! Other aircrafts that have a GPS, but not displayed, don't have this problem unless you load it (!).I'm having this sort of problems somewhere with FSD piper navajo (GPS displayed) and FSD Seneca V (GSP displayed). So every now and then I get a crash (removed the GPS, no problems).FSD Commander 115 is fine, unless you load the GPS (!): only then problems come upHappy landings!

June 27, 200421 yr Rino,I get a CTD upon loading GeoRender 5 whenever the Howard 500 is on my system, whether I use this plane or not. It turns out that my problem is not the GPS (I removed it), but the effectstexture file fx_tracerH. When it is installed CTD, when it is gone all is fine. Weird, isn't it?Henri
June 27, 200421 yr Seems I'm finding this thread late as you have this issue sorted out pretty well. You can safely remove the fx_tracerH file from your Effects folder. It simply drops the "flame" from the exhaust on startup. So much for eye-candy. ;-) YOu may also drop the startup effect from the Effects section of the aircraft.cfg without issue, startup=fx_Cranky_Howard, or replace it with a default. The GPS is another concern it seems and the best bet for Georender users may be to just comment it out with //'s. Using this example techinque may be simplest for you:gauge70=//ST_GPS!gps_500sm, 652,460,221,162Thanks for all to efforts to sort this out. Maybe we should have someone using Georender on the beta team. :-)Milton
June 27, 200421 yr Author Milton, any possiblity to get the little icon bar as a stand alone gauge in the same space? Its nice to have the icon toggles to the fuel switches, etc and also have access to the GPS by icon button. The issue really is the view of the GPS "on start up". If possible to create such an icon bar, those of us with this problem can enjoy an alternate panel.cfg to fix the problem.Eric AND
June 27, 200421 yr Author Good idea.I'd rather just access the GPS by an icon button. I hate losing that icon strip to the other handy gauges in any case.Eric AND
June 27, 200421 yr Hi,If anyone is interested, here is a panel.cfg file that replaces the default GPS in the Virtual Cockpit(VC) version of the Howard 500 with the RealityXP 530 GPS. Of course this means you must have RealityXP's 530 GPS already installed!Cheers,Jim
June 27, 200421 yr Eric,Thank you for all the assistance. I have passed on these threads to Scott and expect that he may provide a nice solution to accomodate the issues. I like the idea of coming up cold but maybe some flexibility can be added here to accomodate other solutions.Milton
