Need some help with AutoStar program.

Featured Replies

I downloaded and installed the program, but I can't see any difference. I checked the option, "show circles", but I can't see it in fs9. I think it's the way I save the "stars_base.dat" file. When I open it and choose save I get several options and I don't know which one to choose. Could someone please help me...thanks.-Mikkel

Hi Mikkel,Should work fine. I suggest:1. Make sure the path to the FS folder is correct, e.g. in my case it is d:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 92. Once you have made your choice be sure to click the "Make stars!" button, otherwise nothing will change.3. Be sure and read the included document in the zip archive: autostar.docMikeEdit: Both "stars.dat" and "stars_base.dat" should be in the Flight Simulator 9 root folder. Be sure to make a backup of "stars.dat" first before modifying it in NOTEPAD. Once you have modified it, as instructed in the document "autostar.doc", choose "Save As.." from the File dropdown menu in NOTEPAD, rename the file to "stars_base.dat" (without the quotes) and save it to the Flight Simulator 9 root folder.

I did all this. I read the document and followed it, but obviously I'm doing something wrong. As I said I think it's in the way I edit the stars.dat file.Maybe I could get the stars_base.dat file from someone which have it working?-Mikkel

If you are using Notepad or Wordpad be sure to enclose the whole file name and extension in quotes. Then it doesn't matter as to the choices.Edit: send me a p-email and I'll attach mine back to you! You have helped me out many times in the past! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Nevermind...after a little experimentation I figured it out. I had accidentally checked the use realstar addon and so it didn't work...heh.-Mikkel

I got it working...and I must say this is one amazing little add-on. I can't believe the diference when flying. I love flying in the early morning hours or at dusk. This evening I took off from EKAH (Aarhus) in Denmark and I saw Saturn, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter line up perfectly in the horizon. I spotted a few constellations...I'm just enjoying this sim even more now. Here's a screenshot...I love it. :)Thanks for the offer Jim.-Mikkelhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82062.jpg

Glad you got things working! I cannot tell from your pic, but if you use this with Real Stars your mouth will hit the deck!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Mikkel, I'm glad you got it working. Have fun! Best regards, Chris

Eric, AutoStar calculates the planet positions for any date and displays them in FS. Optionally it can display the celestial circles, labels for the planets and comets. It can also display a picture among the stars. If you do a forum search for 'planets' you'll find a thread entitled "Add planets to FS9?" which has a detailed discussion. You can download the program from http://www.kline.demon.co.uk/autostar.zip http://www.kline.demon.co.uk/autostar_update_2.zip Be sure to get the update as it has significant enhancements. Have fun! Best regards, Chris
