Replacement Wiper Sound

Featured Replies

Steve's groundroll enhancement gave us some improved sounds for the NGX, most of these can't be applied to the J41 because it doesn't model as many sounds.

But it does have wiper sounds, so with his permission I adjusted the speed and tried them on the J41, I like his wiper sounds much better. Recorded from a car they are very familiar sounding and quite relaxing I can almost go to sleep cruising in the rain

I posted the link to the J41 version in his thread here:

Backup the originals first, then copy these to your FSX folder \Sound\PMDG\J41\

...but a J-41 isn't a car.

I know it's optional, but why replace a more realistic sound with one from a car simply because it's more "pleasant?"

The sound of a wiper isn't some standard thing across the board.

The wiper sounds on the J41 get on my wick to be honest, surely they can't be that annoying in reality! Don't know how you'd be able to hear anything over the damn Garretts, to be honest.

The default sound is borderline annoying, that's why I change the sound to be more "pleasant".

I think we all know the J41 and NGX aren't cars, but even as planes I wouldn't know the difference as I've never flown a real Jetstream. So I've added the sounds from Steve and I much rather the subtle effect than the loud noise that used to be there.

I've never heard the wipers on a real 41, but I can assure you that the priority for the design of aircraft components isn't generally related to pleasantries, especially when it comes to the wipers.

The squeak that's associated with the windshield wipers on my car when it's misting outside and there's just enough water to warrant clearing the windshield is annoying, but I can't say I really have the option to change it to something more pleasant. The altitude warning on the autopilot of the plane I fly could be less irritating, but I can't change it. I find a PW4000 to be one of the cooler sounding engines out there, but I'm not going to swap my 41's engine sounds to them.

Not saying you can't do what you're going to do. I'm just picking at the logic of your choice.

The included sounds must be from a dry screen to be that loud, how can that be realistic/accurate?

I don't agree. The sounds seem to be more derived from the mechanics of the motors, not the friction on the windshield.

I just found out the included J41 sounds are from the MD-11, so now you can rest easy that we aren't replacing real J41 wipers recordings and we can enjoy our rainy flying days guilt free.

Fair, but at the same time, you're replacing an airplane wiper with a car wiper...

I do stand corrected, to some degree, however.
