October 5, 201213 yr Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere before. I am seriously looking at this program, but have a question (or two). Does Opus eliminate the old "Haze" problem where you get haze at around 5,000 and below and everything clears out above including ground level? Also i find that some other weather engines i have used, has affected my a/c (PMDG 737NGX). One affect in particular causing my engine thrust to continually vary. Especially at cruise alt. Thanks, Rick Hobbs
October 8, 201213 yr Commercial Member Mostly yes, we use intelligent visibility layering from the ground up. Try the OpusFSX demo. Regards Cheryl
October 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks Cheryl, will give the demo a try this weekend. regards, Rick Hobbs
October 9, 201213 yr To the OP. The weather that Opus creates is awesome. It is much, much better than it's competitors and has made flying in heavy cloud conditions a tremendous amount of fun. Today I went from Bozeman Montana to Jasper Alberta in multiple overcast layers with menacing clouds above and below with even more broken and scattered clouds in between and on the Rockies. It is problem free and is true to what the metar says to tee. My only wish would be for a smooth transition when the weather updates, but for the meanwhile I have it updating less frequently, and the transitions from one Metar zone to another are really cool. Another small detail that I noticed is that the outside air temperature moves up and down gradually and not in increments like other programs. Now as for the camera part of the program I have had some issues, but the tech support is incredibly responsive and they continually upgrade the software based on customer feedback. It almost seems as if the software isn't totally complete because they seem to be in the mode of fixing/adding things that are a bit fundamental This combined with an unattractive (but functional) user interface and the $45 price tag are the slight downsides. However if live weather is what you're after, you won't be disappointed.
October 9, 201213 yr Author do_denver2. Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it. Seem's to me that from your feedback and all of the positive threads in this and other forums, $45 is looking more and more like a good investment for my sim. I can see myself probably taking the plunge after my test run on the weekend. Regards, Rick Hobbs
November 14, 201213 yr Hello Stephen and Cheryl, No doubt hidden in the depths of this forum is probably the answer but I'm afraid I can't spot it yet so please excuse the question which is;- As a RexEss user which starts FSX, if I invest in Opus what is the order of start up if I use Rex textures only i.e.start FSX, then Opus, then Rex or is there some other combination. Being somewhat disappointed with REX plus at the moment, Opus seems to be a timely solution. Thanks in anticipation. Richard.

Stephen & Cheryl can probably enlarge on this, but what I can tell you is that you do not start REX at all, you load a texture theme of your choice from REX into FSX and then you shut down REX and run Opus & FSX without REX. The only time you start REX again, is if you wish to change your textures. Regards, Rick Hobbs
November 15, 201213 yr OK.thanks for that. I'd noticed references made to REX before but wasn't sure how it worked. Seems I need to learn more about themes. Much appreciated. Richard.

November 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member Is's just as Rick explained. I would recommend either running FSX before OpusFSX or running OpusFSX automatically as per our Getting Started guide. Regards Cheryl

November 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member That is correct, and the same with all the texture packages, REX, AS, and the excellent FEX. Run the pqckages only to select and install the textures with ice basically copies the texture files into the FSX folders overwriting the old ones. Once done just shut the package down and you're done. Then just run the sim and the OpusFSX server program and way you go. But you only ever need to run the texture packages when you want to change your textures. You don't really need to load weather related textures either, a bit of a waist of time because the LWE will tell FSX how they need to appear depending on the weather. Please check out our Flight1 Announcements also about Beta 2.50 which is going to be posted in the next day or so. Regards Stephen :-)
November 15, 201213 yr What about when you update the REX textures but in doing so re activate the static overcast cloud, don't you need to keep going back into the FSX texture folder and change the overcast03 to overcast_fog and then change the overcast03_OPUS1024 back to overcast03.....or is there a work around from needing to do so everytime?
November 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member Even if you needed to change the bitmap it only takes a few seconds because the repair bitmaps have already been copied into the textures file ready for you to rename one of them. Regards Stephen
