Add on Scenery

Featured Replies

Ok, fail again.

1. attemp: turned off anti-virus completely, started fsx, flew to the critical (selfmade) region, CRASH

2. attemp: (turned a-v on again), disabled all addon-sceneries, flew to the critical region, CRASH

It seems that FSX does "not allow" me to fly from one airport to another.

3. attemp: Is there a way to restore my complete default Scenery + Texture folders? Maybe I installed some error-causing textures, which FSX also uses in its default sc.?

Is there a way to restore my complete default Scenery + Texture folders?

The only way I know of is to do a repair. Insert your FSX disk and select the repair option. If you have Acceleration, don't forget you have to do a repair there too. Or, if you don't have Acceleration, you'll need to repair SP1 and SP2 and select repair when you double-click on the executes.

Best regards,

Jim

So in which order do I have to repair them? 1. repair ACC, if try crash then deinstall ACC -> repair FSX -> install ACC ?

I assume I should backup my fsx.cfg, but it won't work with the repaired fsx anymore, will it?

I'm afraid best way would be a clean deinstall+install of EVERYTHING....

No, you insert the FSX Deluxe disk first and select repair when prompted. Once complete, insert the Acceleration disk and select repair with prompted. I would copy the whole directory that has the fsx.cfg in it to a temp directory. I would also save the folder containing the scenery.cfg (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX). Maybe you will use them again, maybe not.

You can do an uninstall too but I think that should be the last resort.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi,

After repair wasn't succesful I decided to re-install it - and I really don't regret it!

Now as the painful process of cleaning, installing, rebooting, defragging... is over, I have a nice clean fsx install with just some basic tweaks in the cfg and 20-40 fps with impressive graphics (at least considering my system it looks impressive for me)

Anyhow, thank you so much for not giving up to help me - perfect support!!

PS: I installed FSX directly into C/ and this is good so far, but now TrackIR doesn't find/link to fsx anymore.

I know this goes offtopic, but maybe there is a small and quick advise what it can be?

Thx,

Steven

Never mind, I solved it by re-installing TrackIR (not into program file x86, but into C/ directly, just like FSX).

Cheers

Gee, I wish I would have known you had TrackIR installed! (Just joking). Just proves that the causes for CTD's in FSX can be numerous and almost impossible to diagnose.

Best regards,

Jim

So true..

Now I´m afraid, the crash could come back while installing one addon after the other as I don`t know which one was the cause!?

Sure I will try to keep my "new" FSX clean and check after every installation if the crash occurs. But if the one critical addon changes just a single entry in an cfg or dll file anywhere deep in the directory I won`t be able to locate the mistake........

Anyhow, my problem is solved - it´s now even better than before - thanks!
