October 11, 201213 yr Dear All Please forgive my stupid "flight sim newbie" questions, etc. I'm more accustom to flying the real 737NG than computers. I love the look and quality of the PMDG simulations and I plan to use them to view non-normal events and for general interest. However, I have found it very frustrating getting decent assistance from PMDG over a lost download and the issue of how to get it to work well on a MacBook Pro OSx Lion. Has anyone managed to get it to work well on such a platform and what downloads have you purchased to get the best result? Many thanks - Leo
October 11, 201213 yr Well, never mind the fact that you're trying to run it on OSX, but you can't use NGX for the purpose you want anyway. On the EULA: "b. You may use the Software for private entertainment purposes only, and may not use this software to conduct training, aircraft familiarization or other training scenarios without acquiring a commercial support license from PMDG in advance." and "d. You may not use this software to maintain currency for any aircraft certification requirement or training program. You may not list this software as meeting qualification for any training cycle."
October 11, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the advice Willwonka, super useful  Anyone got any other points regarding how to actually get the software to work well on Mac OS X Lion?
October 11, 201213 yr The main clue here is that the NGX runs only in FSX, and that FSX runs only on Windows. So, you'll need to have installed Windows in your Mac via Bootcamp (it can be 7, XP, or if you like challenges, Vista ). Parallels won't work here; if I understand correctly, Parallels is similar to a virtual machine, not adequate for resource-hungry programs. Then, install and setup FSX as if you had a PC. October 12, 201213 yr My previous alternate computer was a 2008 Apple iMac (24", 2.80 GHz, etc.). I ran FSX via Boot Camp and Windows XP, which is something you can try. However, you need to purchase a copy of Windows. The setup worked fine, and I was able to run the PMDG B747 on top of other commonly used add-ons such as EZCA, FlyTampa scenery add-ons, Real Environment Xtreme, etc. with decent performance when settings were adjusted accordingly (although most were set to about 1/3 of the maximum possible). The only serious issue I had was with the McPhat Studios HD textures for the B747. Apparently, my computer did not possess enough memory to utilize them properly (4 GB). Make sure that your computer possesses enough power to justify purchasing a copy of Windows solely for one aircraft. Even my current Dell XPS does not run FSX at a great level (although I use higher settings). Plus, you should probably consider flight control hardware for any complex FSX aircraft.
October 13, 201213 yr -Just a quick tip: If it has ".exe" than it can't run on OSX or any apple software. I have a macbook air with OSX lion intel core i5, and there are some pretty awesome games on the app store just for Mountain Lion! Check it out!
