Scenery Help

Featured Replies

Hey there long time FSimmer here, I've added some scenery from different makers Like Blue Print and others, what would be the right place to put them, mine is in Documents\Flight Simmulator Files.........It seems to work fine.

Running Windows 7 64 bit, FS 9.1.

Would it be better C:Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery?

It doesn't matter where you put them unless they have a need to be in a particular spot.

Addons such as VOZ or Glacier Bay that have setup apps look for files in specific locations.

Your run of the mill addons can be anywhere, all we are talking about is a path.

You mightt get a miniscule performance increase having the addons on another hard drive, but with today's hardware I doubt it would be much of an improvement.

The sceneries where it might make a difference are large photorealistic sceneries. I read a tip some time ago on the PC Aviator/Megascenery site that suggested putting them in their own folders outside of FS. The claim was that this reduces or even eliminates blurries. I don't know just how much affect it really has had as there were a few other tweaks as well, but it seemed to work. I have FS on a dedicated drive and so there's D:\Flght Simulator 9, D:\megaSceneryPNW etc. An entry from my scenery.cfg file would read:

Local=D:\megaSceneryMidAtlantic\Baltim_ew

etc...

My regular sceneries I just install in the default locations
