version rc3 keeps crashing to desktop

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just can't use X-Plane 10.10 RC3. It crashes to the desktop shortly after takeoff no matter what plane I am in default or add on and / or location. Is there something that corrects this? I have just about given up and back to FSX if this is an on going issue. I was thinking of deleting the main folder and reinstalling but need to go back to RC2 if possible. Otherwise, I am not spending any more $$ on addons until this is resolved. Any suggestions? Note: I just rebuilt my system, but have been running the program from my original external HD, so thinking maybe this is part of the issue??? I am lost right now. Thanks for any help.

Best, Jeff

Make sure it's NOT installed on an external drive.

Make sure it's installed in a folder that is NOT a "Program Files" folder.

Failing those 2, MOVE all files in your X-Plane 10/output/preferences folder to a temporary folder and then restart X Plane. It will build a new set of preferences. Check to see if it crashes. If it does not, the files you originally moved are corrupted somewhere.

The downside is you will have to set up all your preferences again.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I moved the entire folder to my C drive into a folder called XPlane 10 Stuff. I did not rebuild prefs yet, but after running a test, it just made my entire system reboot, which it did not do before. Something on my new rig and Version 10.10 do not get along. Would love to get it stable as most others have. I guess I'll keep digging to see what can be done. I'm sure it's my rig, not the program.

Best, Jeff

If you cannot resolve it yourself, send the crash_log.txt or Log.txt file to Laminar support along with as much detail about the crash as you can.

Check any overclocking going on and un-clock it back to stock just to see if that is an issue. Back up your current config and reset to defaults. Maybe something going on after takeoff graphically or CPU-bound that stalls the computer.

If that's not the case and you're willing to eliminate the possibility of an addon or bad file, remove all addons from XP10 (move the files from the XP folders) and do a REPAIR in the installer. It will redownload all files back to original unmodified as is on the download server and that may resolve.
