My recommendations:

2. FS GENESIS complete

5. Next Map Europe complete

3. GEX Eur,Nth USA and Tropics (actually this software only replaces your default textures - no entry goes into the Scenery Library or Scenery.cfg so it can be install anytime).

4. UTX USA,CANADA,EUROPE

1. Canada Landclass

6. Megascenery Hawaii,Las Vegas,Reno Various airports/sceneries by

The rest can be installed in any order you please but make sure any FSDT airport is sitting above MegaScenery where the FSDT airport resides. If you have a payware AI program like MyTrafficX, that should be number 1.

Best regards,

Jim

I also notice you have OZ and some Orbx. Some local sceneries must be above Orbx and Oz and Ants sceneries must be above, ie lower number in the scenery library. If you install the sceneries in the order list above your first sceneries will have a higher number, will be listed lower down the scenery library list.

Here is some general rules of thumb.

Ultimate Terrain needs to be at lower display priority than FTX entries because otherwise its general excludes will remove most of the ORBX components.

Basically, the idea is to place global or continental add-ons, like FSG terrain mesh, UTX, large-coverage landclass, etc., just above the default entries of the scenery library, which order doesn't really matter, then regional add-ons, like FTX, above that, then local add-ons, like airports and landmarks, near the top. Object library entries can be anywhere assuming they really only contain object library files and no other content like excludes or object placement files.

Ant's and OZx entries need to be above FTX but you can cross-check in the respective manuals.

If you get or have some of the west coast NA sceneries like Tongas Fjords it can be either above or below FTX(Orbx) though I generally recommend below because that way Pacific Fjords takes priority in the (small) overlap area. Van+3/Vic+ entries should be above FTX but need to have their temp patches in place to avoid "messing with" FTX components.

So in general think of this order showing in the scenery library listing:

Local

Regional

Continental

Mesh

FSX Default

Orbx and Oz sceneries are always placed on top of the Scenery Library through there FTX Central setup program. They will not have any affect over anything below them in the Scenery Library. When you click Default, the Orbx Scenery Library lines disappear.

Yes this is true with the exception of when you need to place an insertion point using Central. I, for instance have all of SimAddons British Columbia scenery and also Don Grovestines west coast NA airports. All of these must be on top of FTX and Oz in order to be given priority over Orbx/FTX scenery. To maintain this position of priority it is essential to make an insertion point because as soon as you install a new FTX or reinstall and existing FTX the priority will be changed (moved to the top) and this will make SimAddons and Don's sceneries not visible. The insertion point ensures those addons will always keep their priority above Orbx/FTX.

You are correct but all of mine are located at the top if I have World checked in FTX Central. If I click on Default, all of the FTX/Orbx entries will be removed. You are talking about putting an insertion point in the FTX Orbix scenery so that any scenery you put above it stays above it when you turn FTX on or off. When you go back to the default, his sceneries should remain in the Scenery Library and the Orbix stuff will be gone until he turns it on again. So far I haven't been required to do any of that will my massive list of scenery. In his list I don't see anything that would need to be inserted.

Jim

You say you have Orbx, right? AU and NZ right? Installing Orbx of course installs "Central" for switching between regions. There is a section in your AU and NZ manuals that explains where to find the menu item for scenery configuration, ie insertion points and how to go about it, which is extremely easy.

Basically, Using the module, once you place an insertion point, any new installer will place scenery "above" the insertion point. However, if you manually install sceneries you can of course place them anywhere you like. However, what is important is that when you install a new Orbx or reinstall an Orbx scenery then the install will prevent the Orbx/FTX scenery from being automatically moved to the top of the library, therefore preserving your other installs higher prositions above the Orbx/FTX. Why is this important. As I noted, if you installed a local airport (ei like SimAddons Castlegar) in a higher priority than Orbx, then it will show instead of Orbx airport. But if you install an Orbx scenery without an insertion point, then the Orbx will move to the top in priority, and this will displace the SimAddons airport (a local scenery) to a lower level and you will not see your Castlegar but will see the Orbx version. To see the SimAddons Castlegar would then require you to move it manually through the sim back up to the top of the list. This a one pain the butt, therefore the insertion point keeps the scenery order as it should. This problem of reordering only occurs with new installers that automatically put scenery layers into your scenery.cfg file and when they do so they put them at the top of the list (ie higher priority).

If your using a scenery cfg editor to modify your scenery config, it is extremely important to understand how scenery priority sets the loading priority into the sim and how it will be displayed. Which is why I provided the simple layout scheme above, it works! However, you do not necessarily have to follow this exactly if you know what your doing, otherwise stick to this layout, it will actually help you find your sceneries easier.

Mine is somewhat complicated, I have over 500 scenery layers and many local, regional, continental sceneries and have some turned on and some turned off due to their particular impact and flying interests.

actually does anyone have a screenshot of the scenery library or maybe cfg file they can post for reference :)

Mine would fill 10 pages. And email of the file would work better. See my PM.

Actually, it just occured to me...because I have all of Orbx regional sceneries and all their airports...that evertime you switch between Orbx regions, IE, Australia to North America for example, their scenery is moved to the top of the scenery library automatically, Again this is why and insertion point is absolutely essential if you have many local sceneries which NEED to be above Orbx stuff.
