October 14, 201213 yr Sorry if this has been covered but I'm a new member here and have not yet found an answer to my problem, so please be kind. I have been using X-plane V9 for about 3 years in an iMac and am fairly good at it, unfortunately the iMac DVD drive is a pain in the ***, I'm on my 3rd replacement. Is there ANY way I can run X-plane without a working internal DVD drive? I have an external drive, and a USB thumb drive. I'm not a Mac techie at all, although I was very familiar with DOS and Windows in the past. Thanks a lot for ANY help. fleigle
October 14, 201213 yr Is the drive working at all? All I could suggest, and I dont know if it would work would be to put the disk in the drive and load up disk utility. Select the DVD and then click on 'new image'. Press save and then afterwards you can mount the disk image with the DVD removed. I dont know if it will work or not but it is what I would try first.
October 22, 201213 yr Yeah saving and mounting a copy of the disc image should work. Daemon Tools Lite is a free program that will allow you to mount disc images. October 22, 201213 yr Author Thanks guys, sorry for the lateness in replying to your suggestions 1) The drive went bad again, so this is the 3rd time in 4-1/2 years, if it was OTHER than an iMac I would have no problem swapping the bugger out myself, but iMacs are difficult to work on. 2) So I just got the computer back with a new DVD drive and a bigger HD and have got everything running again. I'll try the "disc image" route and will let you know. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. f
