October 15, 201213 yr Hi gang, I own both the QualityWings and the Captain Sim 757. Now, I'm not going to blatently slam and criticize one or the other, but I do have my favorites. One of my favorite things about the QW is the superior soundset compared to the CS, which sounds more like a static sound than the QW does. Now, out of sheer boredom, I started to wonder if it was possible to take the QW soundset, and merge into the CS model, with little difficulties. Is it possible to do, without extreme compromises?
October 15, 201213 yr Author Yes, I have done it multiple times with different aircraft and it works fine. Could you elaborate just a bit? Which sound files should I move to where?
October 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member I would first go into the CS sound folder and disable the sound.cfg by renaming it sound.cfg.orig. That way you can revert to original if you ever decide to. Then set up an aliased sound.cfg by copying the sound.cfg from the "QualityWings 753 Passenger\sound.rr" folder into the CS sound folder, or if you want the PW sounds, copy the sound.cfg from "QualityWings 753 Passenger\sound.pw" folder instead. Jim Thanks Jim, will do. So I couldn't have the two separate sets, just either RR or PW?
October 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member No, you could use both, but you'd need a second sound folder in the CS installation. I don't have the CS 757 so I'm not familiar with the folder structure, possibly it already has two sound folders, one for RR and one for PW sounds. If so, you could follow the steps above for each, copying each QW sound.cfg into their respective folders within the CS installation. The reason I'm suggesting copying from the QualityWings 753 Passenger\sound.X folders is because they are already aliased to the QualityWings 752 Passenger/sound.X folders, which is where the sound files actually reside. Basically you just need to duplicate that setup within the CS sound folders. You can only use one soundset at a time of course, and that will depend on which aircraft you select from the aircraft menu. Using the QW 757-300 as an example, if you select the "QW House Livery RR" it'll use the RR sounds where "QW House Livery PW" will use the PW sounds. This is defined in the aircraft.cfg under the [fltsim.X] headers as "sound=pw" or "sound=rr" (drag the acft.cfg into an open Notepad window to view/edit). This tells the sim to use the sounds from either the "QualityWings 753 Passenger\sound.pw" folder or the "QualityWings 753 Passenger\sound.rr" folder depending on which variation you select from the menu. It's pretty self-explanitory if you look at the sound.cfgs and acft.cfgs in Notepad. As another example, the default 747 aliases sounds from the 737-800, so you could check that out as well. Give a shout if you need more help. Jim
