DX10 solves one big problem but sadly no extra FPS

Featured Replies

So far my experience of DX10 has been very favourable, have followed the tips etc, and before switching I was having quite a few problems of flashing scenery tiles and severe spiking. Running a core 2 duo 3.6/gtx 560 ti/8gb RAM I had thought that a bit unexpected but to my delight on DX10 that problem seems to have disappeared. However the anticipated increase in FPS has not come with it, in actual fact it has dropped a bit. Am still reading all the tweaks for DX10 but if anybody any comments to make I am all ears. Having said the frames have dropped eg Klax 14 FPS I do believe it is a smoother flying experience and apart from the odd building glitch all appears OK. Mike

I have the same processor but easily overclocked to 4.07 Ghz. If you're not comfortable with overclocking, fine. But you should consider it. I will say that I get some increase in FPS but not massive with DX10. However, as everyone here says, it looks better and is smoother and I can run with more bells and whistles.

I didn't find any massive increase either, Randall, but what I did find was that - when set to 30, with NI set as Nvidia suggests, and the various 'tweaks, twiddles and so on, done - she will stay at 30 forever, with some settings that were not possible with 9. It's just smoother.

AA is not bad - right now I'm using Bumpy's NI settings - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vlfu2tok9i1mthw/xn5ROjNgyh and it seems to work just fine, though I'm not really testing, as trying to keep up with Les and the Movie business is taking a toll of available time.

I do agree on the o/c: I had the older e6600 - overclocked just a tad, as I was scared (back then). The i7-950 was good, and one doesn't have to be a genius to do it - but the i7-2600K is just a breeze to push, and no heat issues, either.
