October 19, 201213 yr So far my experience of DX10 has been very favourable, have followed the tips etc, and before switching I was having quite a few problems of flashing scenery tiles and severe spiking. Running a core 2 duo 3.6/gtx 560 ti/8gb RAM I had thought that a bit unexpected but to my delight on DX10 that problem seems to have disappeared. However the anticipated increase in FPS has not come with it, in actual fact it has dropped a bit. Am still reading all the tweaks for DX10 but if anybody any comments to make I am all ears. Having said the frames have dropped eg Klax 14 FPS I do believe it is a smoother flying experience and apart from the odd building glitch all appears OK. Mike
October 19, 201213 yr Mike - we need to see your system details and proc speed (in your profile at left edge), plus your Nvidia Inspector and fdx.cfg settings. October 19, 201213 yr Author PJ .Have completed my profile and include My fsx cfg etc which it won't . let me attach for some reason .WTD?. Inspector has attached. Thanks Mike. PJ. Hope you get this Edited October 20, 201213 yr by firehawk44 Images removed - exceeded 1600W and 400KB limit.
October 19, 201213 yr Here you go, Mike: It's pretty close, and you should get better frames with this. With that 560Ti, you ought to be able to run BufferPools=0. Anyway put it is or make (all of) the changes as I have suggested do some test flights and let us know how you make out. Edit - yeah, Inspector looks perfect, Mike - but you might try 4xSGSS and 4xS for a tad more performance.. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
October 19, 201213 yr Author PJ Thanks for that we are certainly upping the fps by 2-4.Which lines are the 4xSGSS and 4xS. Now have Big box plus signs for runway lights at EGLC UK2000 but OK at egll UK2000. Strange. Mike
October 19, 201213 yr Nvidia Inspector, Mike. AA Setting (8xS) and AA Supersampling (8xSGSS). 8xSGSS is hard for even the i7 5xx series gpu's, and 4 and 4 are easier, with slightly poorer AA. I generally run with the lower setting, allowing me to run more, and heavier cloud density, plus additional GA and AI. DX10 will yield higher and smoother frames for the same settings as DX9, but will also allow heavier settings, too. You have a good processor there. I've seen better hardware have lower performance! Re: EGLC - Just start a separate thread so it'll be noticed, you might get lucky, but also ask about it on the UK2000 forum, mentioning the patch, and with some links back here.. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
October 19, 201213 yr I'm afraid that's all you can expect from a C2D system. The performance benefits of DX10 isn't effectively realized until you have a quad core.system. I'm in the same boat with my E6850 3.0Ghz C2D system. As a result I get better and more consistent performance with DX9 than dx10. While others with quad core report the opposite. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
October 19, 201213 yr I have 2600K and get better performance with DX9 than DX10. So, not sure if quad or not is all that relevant, DX10 preview is just a funny thing.
October 20, 201213 yr Author The blocky runway lights was a missing texture ( I had installed the original scenery rather than the updated version) So I am so enthused to continue this experiment with dx10 version. But how has it eliminated the spikes and flashing I was getting in 9, is it Dx10 coping better or something I have adjusted in the cfg. Mystery!! Anyway just done the smoothest flight ever from EGLL to EGCC . Observations colour depth much better, some 3rd party effects ie smoke at airports intermittent, Taxi to parking arrows didn't appear they flashed once the disappeared, On approach airport appearance a little sparkly and AI aircraft general outline, wing edges appeared a little flickery in appearance and that would be my biggest criticism. But no spiking or scenery blocks flashing what a success. Thanks PJ for help so far and any further comments on my observations would be gratefully received.Mike.
October 20, 201213 yr Author Solved the sparkly aircraft .I had made an error setting up the aa settings in Nvidia inspector. Now running the 4 x's. But obviously lost a few Frames on that but smooth!
October 20, 201213 yr Hats off to you Paul. I implimented the modifications for DX10 and now FSX runs smooth as silk, and better than Prepar3d. My system is an old Dell, I now run FSX almost fully maxed and get frame rates in the 30s, but more important, they are smooth. Also, the color and effects are much better. I can ignore the odd aircraft that doesn't work (I think it was only the Do27 anyway) and the occasional / rare blue flash, but you've hit all the big score points of DX10. October 21, 201213 yr Author PJ. This has indeed solved yet another of my problemsI was having with DX9 in that I used to get sound crackling and stutters at certain airports and now Hey Presto they have disappeared. I am happy, happy!! Thanks a million.Mike
October 21, 201213 yr Good to hear, Mike. I know that a few people have given up for lack of technical expertise, or plair fear of messing something up, (or dug a public hole that they can't get out of!), but most open-minded folk that try DX10 - have that same success that you guys are having - and they stay there. Did you see Bimmer's post this morning!! The guy's a riot! :LMAO: i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
October 21, 201213 yr Author Just read it. This could become a cult following and you and the guys could become 'Rock' stars. Keep it up! Mike
