FS9 .gau file version?

Featured Replies

I use Win7-64.

When I look in the FS9.1 gauges folder I cannot get the "File Version" or "Product Version" of each .gau to show up in the list of gauges.

Is this normal?

If I look in the FSX gauges folder the "File Version" and "Product Version" are shown for the .dll gauge files ok (see screenshot ,far right side).

Hi,

This works for me: Right click on the .gau file and select properties.

Jan,

Thanks for the reply.

Are you using Win7-64?

Jan,

Ok,

Thanks for confirming.

Have any idea what I need to do with my win7-64 to get the version numbers to list?

Wonder if someone could check the FS9.1 (Win7-64) gauge property box if they show the same program that "opens" the gauge files as I have here?

Ok... not sure why all of this is important... but...

A .gau file is a .dll file with the extension changed from .dll to .gau. To be able to see the version info (assuming the file contains such info, it isn't required to), simply change the file's extension from .gau to .dll and check the version info... just remember to change it back to .gau when you're done.

Ed,

Thanks for the reply.

Your solution worked great.

Bert Pieke (in a post on RealityXP forum) gets the file (.gau / version data) to display properly in his WinXP OS and Jan (posted above here) said it works in his Win7-64.

So my thought is I have some function in my Win7-64 OS set wrong.

Naturally I thought I may have a PC virus messing things up.

Both .dll and gau files. "can" display VERSION INFORMATION, provided that that "Version Information" has been included when the file was created.

However, including the Version Information is "optional", so it is up to the developer creating the file, to decide if they are going to add version information, or not.

ie. If the developer did not INTENTIONALLY add "version Information" to the file, it cannot display what it has not got.

Same thing apples to adding a "Digital Signature"

( Most developers would add this information, to help keep track of versions and changes, as well as to shown Author info etc)

Ed,

"Win7 does not show version information for any files except .exe and .dll. " Yes, that is what I see .. But Jan said his worked .. something wrong there!

Anyway, I copied an RXP .gau file in my FS9.1 gauges folder then renamed to .dll as you suggested ... it worked (screenshot).
