Please....what may be my best solution to poor performance and clarity?

Featured Replies

I would dearly love to get improved performance when flying my PMDG heavies. Currently I run out of RAM after half an hour or so and the clarity of the flight deck and aircraft is well below the pictures I've seen online and on the PMDG site.

However I'm not computer literate enough to make a sensible choice of what to upgrade. If indeed that's required.

Here are my computer details:

Processor : Intel ® Core ™2 CPU 6400 @2.13 GHz 2.14 GHz

Windows 7 32 bit

RAM 4.00 (3.25 GB usable)

Video card : Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS

Guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Cliff,

Changing to windows7 64 bit helps a lot. (or maybe to windows 8 64 bit)

And I should upgrade my computer with 2 extra Gb Ram (6Gb total). But you should only do this if you have a 64 bit system. Otherwise it doesn't help you.

An i7 processor gives you way more speed and fps, but for the " out of memory problems" the 64 bit and extra ram should help.

There used to be a guide on the AVSIM forums. However I do think the individual has moved that information to his blog.

The link to his blog is http://#####.wordpress.com/. (I don't know if I'm supposed to link that or not on AVSIM so if the link is removed look for a user named Srdan Word Not Allowed)

When you get to the blog, you want to click on the link marked FSX/P3D Software and Hardware Guide.

If you do not fancy checking his site, then my own quick and semi informed recommendation is:

* If you have the budget, a new PC might be in order

* Barring that I'd say upgrade (in this order) the CPU (FSX is CPU intense, get the bet processor you can afford), Video Card (I think I read a 1.5MB card is optimal), OS (Win 7 64 bit) and try getting faster RAM (+4 more GB if possible). Also keep in mind that getting a new processor MAY require a new mother board.

If you do have limited PC knowledge then I'd suggest a new PC that fits your budget and plan your expectations accordingly. If you post in AVSIM's hardware forum and ask "What FSX experience would I get with (insert new PC here)?" Most users will gladly help.
