Disabling Reflections

Featured Replies

I'm looking to disable reflections, on both my airplanes, and scenery. Does anyone know how to do this? Also is there a tweak that reduces polygon counts in scenery? Thank you in advance.

Connor Anderson

I think it's under options display

uncheck aircraft display shadows on ground.

uncheck aircraft displays shadows onself.

Under scenery

uncheck buildings or autogen displays shadows.

If you can't find it I will get on my computer tomorrow and give you exact instructions. Or someone can beat me to it. Best of luck and happy flying.

Not sure whether you are wanting to eliminate those annoying reflections on the windscreen and windows of default aircraft. If so, type in John Standard in your File Library search and you will get his freeware mod.

I was looking to disable the NGX reflections, and add on scenery reflections.

Connor Anderson

You mean the reflections on the windscreen and the instruments? That would need some graphic editing since there isn't a dedicated option to turn them off. But I actually like them.

Same for the addon scenery. That would be a very specific option for just that one addon airport. Unless it comes with a config tool, your only way would be to edit some files by yourself.

Just out of interest, which airport is the most annoying in that aspect?

The most annoying is FlyTampa Boston for me. It seems to give me the worst FPS, and the reflections are way out of wack. Do you know what program or software I could use to edit those files?

Connor Anderson

What reflection effect are you referring to at Boston? If you're talking about the water reflections, you can tweak those in the FSX graphics options. Try setting the water quality to 2.x Low.

If you are talking about reflections on glass buildings and the like, those are not true reflections but rather what are known as "environment maps", and on a modern computer they have virtually zero performance impact.

Do you know what program or software I could use to edit those files?

My guess would be that any detailed graphics program can help you there. Perhaps ask some of the pros on how to edit and, first of all, find the right files. As said, these are different among addons.

But molleh is right, don't expect any performance gains due to reduced or even deleted reflections on that level.
