July 16, 200421 yr I was wondering if there is any way to NOT allow the weather theme that is selected to change. What I mean is, I can select a weather theme, say "Gray and Rainy" and fly in any direction from the departure airport for around 3 to 5 minutes and all of a sudden, the sky begins to clear and the weather seems to change significantly, even though I have the "Dynamic Weather" option set to NONE/OFF.Is this normal for the weather themes? I thought they covered larger areas than 5 to 10 miles around the airport of departure? The Learning section seemed to indicate that the weather themes could cover areas that are very large (100's of square miles).Any information on this is appreciated! Thanks,Scott :-)FAA Certified Flight Instructor & ATP - KCOS
July 16, 200421 yr Well, a circle with a radius of ~5.6nm from the airport covers 100 sq miles...an 8 nm radius covers over 200nm^2 etc. So it's quite possible the themes do cover hundreds of square miles and yet you can't stray far from an airport while keeping that theme in play.Might be a better idea to go to custom weather and set global weather to your liking, but I think even that changes over time. If you have the full version of FSUIPC, a read through Pete Dowson's FSUIPC advanced weather engine docs could prove illuminating.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
July 17, 200421 yr It depends on the area you are flying in and what the weather is at nearby weather stations. I just made a short 40 mile flight (KITH to KSYR) and it stayed gray and rainy the whole trip. You may have flown into a nearby weather station area with different weather.Try this, load a flight with the weather theme. Now go back to the weather page and click on user defined weather and then customize weather. On the map page, make sure you have weather stations selected to display. Take a look at the weather conditions at your current location and then check the map for nearby weather stations. Click on the weather stations to check conditions there, move around the map in different directions and check more weather stations.Kurt M
July 17, 200421 yr It is probably due to your altitude, as in real life. Next time it clears, try descending and see if the rain returns.
