Need some help with Wilco Erj-145

Featured Replies

So tonight ended in frustration when I felt ambitious to fly from Bismark, ND, to Billings MT. If you arn't aware, there is a MASSIVE snow front in the area, and I really thought I could get the autoland working.

On top of decent, I loaded all of my performance info into the FMC, but had trouble getting my ILS frequency into the NAV1 Radio!! It wouldn't let me enter the correct frequency, only in NAV2. So, I just went with that, activated NAV2, entered the Coarse, and turned to align with the localizer.

By this point I was at about 10,000 FT, and the thick layer of clouds offered me with heavy snow, and low visibility. I was going to turn on the "NAV" on autopilot, but it wouldn't activate.... and it showed "Discontinuity". I don't know what that means....

The weather was so bad in Billings, I couldn't even find the runway, and kept on flying into a dark winter night of nothingness somewhere in Montana... so I quit out.

Is there a tutorial video, somewhere on how to autoland the ERj-145 with clear instructions? I would like VISUAL. I am a visual learner, and the manual provided from WILco only got my more confused!!!!

Thanks for any help,

Summer1

Hey Summer,

There is a button down below the Nav radio panel that says 1/2. It is right by the radio tuning dial. If you click that you can select Nav1/2 or Com 1/2.

Are you referring to the FeelThere ERJ v2 aircraft, which is often wrongly assumed to be produced by Wilco? If so, autoland is not an option with this aircraft.

A discontinuity means that you haven't properly programmed the FMC so that your flight plan could not be closed. And ILS freqs are entered into the NAV1 radio.

Take a look at the E145 tutorial here (http://www.flytutorial.com/ ), which I've found very helpful in the past.

Yikes - Regional jets like the ERJ 145 (or CRJ for that matter) aren't CATIII capable, and have no autoland (in real life nor in the sim). The RJ that I know of with autoland is the BAe Avro RJ.

It's easier to tune the radios using the FMS instead of the RMU. Press the NAV button and then press the LSK for TUNE.

I haven't tried it but the FMS should autotune the ILS frequency on Nav1 radio if you have the ILS approach loaded, but that might not work if you have a discontinuity. You can either remove the discontinuity you might instead be able to bypass the problem by pressing the DIR key and select the first fix on the approach.

This set of videos is very good for using the FMS on the ERJ: http://www.youtube.com/user/bushwoodful/videos?flow=grid&view=0.
