November 13, 201213 yr Hi there people. I use FSX Booster ATM which has helped a little but even with that now its starting to lag a little. November 13, 201213 yr Medion computer, eh? I hate them as people buy them like crazy for their prices, and we sell "normal" computers... the specs you provided are a not enough. Anyway, what you have here is an AMD CPU + AMD graphics = worst solution for FSX there is. I have a huge set of tweaks collected on my blog, in my guide, but I don't think that it will be of much help to you. Doesn't hurt to try though... Maybe you are better off with a venetubo tool. Avail here.
November 14, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your reply. In that case i might be better off doing away with the medion and building my own pc. Are you able to give me an idea of your setup because you certainly seem clued up on this and no doubt have a good setup! Thank you.
November 14, 201213 yr I don't quite get it. What do you need from me to get clues on my setup? It is hopefully all written down in my blog and in the guide. I would not pop in the 680 to get faster antisliasing, but that simply doesn't warrant another 550€ expenses! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
November 14, 201213 yr Author What do i need form you? Well advice would be a good start. What Graphics Card, CPU, Memory etc etc?
November 14, 201213 yr No, sorry to ask so stupidly, but my hardware config is in both AVSIM and my blog. How is that not enough as the clue? And in my guide under hardware there is even more advices and clues. But OK, here you go: 3770K GTX680 2400Mhz+ memory with lowest possible latency... corsair, g.skill, ocz, crucial... I act like this because almost every 2nd post on hardware forums is "what should I get for FSX?" or "is this configuration good for FSX?", the forum is filled with one and the same question. This is why I wrote the guide. To take some of the heat off the forums back then, to make forums more interesting, and let people talk about some other topics rather than just answering repetitive posts on what to buy for FSX. I hope you can understand that.
November 14, 201213 yr What do i need form you? Well advice would be a good start. What Graphics Card, CPU, Memory etc etc? Look at My PC and My Simulator in the sidebar. It shows the individuals specs and fsx software installed. I see you have not added yours yet to your sidebar. You can do this in your profile. In the upper right hand corner of this page, click on your name and that will take you to your profile and you can edit it. Listing your PC specs is important as many of us need this information to sometimes help you or answer your questions. Your settings for FSX are shown in your FSX.cfg. What you list in the OP helps a little but it is not sufficient to provide you advice on fsx settings. You need to open your fsx.cfg, copy everything in it and then paste the information here in your post. In post #2, Word Not Allowed gave you two excellent links (in blue letters). One is to his blog (website) where he lists all the tweaks that can be added to your FSX.cfg. He then has recommendations for setting up a computer system that will run FSX well. The other link he provided was to a tool or utility on the Internet in which the tool will read your current FSX.cfg and then make recommendations for changes to your FSX.cfg based on your computer system. You then just click a button and it's all done. You have a new FSX.cfg that should be optimized for you to run FSX. Sometimes it doesn't work though and, if it doesn't work, the program made a copy of your original FSX.cfg and you can delete the bad one and rename the one you had before and you are back to square one. I know the links to those sites will help you a lot but if you want more information on computer systems best for FSX, I strongly suggest you visit our Hardware Forum here at AVSIM. This is where some of the computer experts, like Word Not Allowed, hang out once in a while to answer your questions about a good computer system. Hope this resolves your confusion. Best regards, Jim Fantasitc thank you for that. Regarding the link i got about loading the cfg file the only option i get is for a geforce card which i dont have. Im not sure if i can continue on that because theres no option for an AMD card there. Unless maybe i can but selecting the Geforce card??? Yes I will def list my specs on the side also to give people a good idea of them. My FSX.CFG is probably quite loaded with a lot of 3rd party software i downloaded.. for example FSX Booster. Wondering if its worth be resetting the CFG file to start from scratch and start applying the blog tweaks? Here's the contents of my CFG. November 15, 201213 yr When you get the time too, update that BIOS! It's over 18months old... Heck I've updated mine 3 times in the last last 3 months, noticing various small improvements.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
November 15, 201213 yr Wondering if its worth be resetting the CFG file to start from scratch and start applying the blog tweaks? Definitely. At the top of my FSX tweaking guide I state in big bold font to start with the clean FSX.cfg, otherwise the whole thing is futile.
November 15, 201213 yr Thanks for putting your specs in your profile! Is your Windows 7 OS 64 bit or 32 bit? Believe most of these systems were sold with the 64 bit version. To find out for sure, just click on the Start button in the lower left corner and click on Control Panel, then System and Security, then System. The number of cores should be 4. If you turn on Turbo Speed in the BIOS, you can get 2.8GHz out of your CPU rather than your current 2.5GHz. That will help a little. This is the fastest your CPU can run. Your video card is integrated and FSX works better with a stand alone video card. Since you have an AMD system, I would stay with the ATI card if you decide to get a stand-alone card as it would probably be better optimized to work with your system. The best option would be to upgrade your system to an i7 2500 at the minimum. An i7 2500K would allow some overclocking. Updating your drivers (http://pcsupport.abo...s-windows-7.htm) will help in performance and you can sometimes go on the website of the company you bought your system from and look for updated drivers. If that's not possible, look on the Internet for a driver update program. These programs will charge you if you decide to have your drivers updated but running the program first will allow you to see how many of your drivers are out of date (including any BIOS updates as Richard suggested in post #9). You can pay the $30-$40 to have the program update your drivers or you can do it yourself by Googling and looking for each driver update recommended. For your FSX.cfg, I have just a couple of suggestions: [Display] TextureMaxLoad=9 (the default for this is 6. Not sure why you moved it to 9 but higher numbers require more resources. I would lower this to 6). [DISPLAY.Device.AMD Radeon HD 6550D.0] Mode=1920x1080x32 TriLinear=1 (I would change this line to the best quality and change it to Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 [bufferPools] (this may cause some slowdowns if not done properly. I would comment it out by placing two slashes (//) in front of each item (such as //[bufferPools] etc.), save your config and see if FSX runs better without these settings). RejectThreshold=126976 Poolsize=49000000 Make sure your HDD's are defragged. FSX and all addons and Windows 7 throw files all over the HDD and that slows things down significantly. Defrag at least monthly. Lastly, I totally agree with Word Not Allowed in regards to starting with a clean fsx.cfg. You can try my adjustments first to see if there are any performance changes to the better. If you decide to go with a clean fsx.cfg, save this one first by renaming it to fsx.orig, then restart FSX and let the config rebuild. Best regards, Jim Forgot to add you should also run a Registry Cleaner like CCleaner. That does wonders sometimes too! Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 15, 201213 yr Something to keep in mind (for everyone): If, "starting to lag", means nothing has changed hardware/software-wise, but lag has increased.. check your CPU and GPU cooling fans and heat-sinks.. When they get dirty, and blocked.. heat goes up, performance goes down.
November 16, 201213 yr Author WOW some very useful replies there! Im sorry i havent got back to u guys for so long been flat out working recently. @Brett, Word Not Allowed & Firehawk thanks so much for your help. Yes the Windows i have is 64Bit. So updating the BIOS would help right? I got prompted for video updates and i use the catalyst amd control centre which finds me the other updates. Other than these video drivers i just mentioned what other updates are critical for my hardware? I would like to update my BIOS yes.. Am i right this gets done via USB stick or CD? November 17, 201213 yr Updating your BIOS may not help FSX directly as such, but given that it typically resolves or improves your systemboard performance, that in turn has the knock on affect that other things improve too. It could be just a tiny improvement or it could make an unstable system pretty much perfect. Depends on the systemboard, the BIOS and other things, but certainly something that is always worth doing. Interesting point about CCC (Catalyst Control Centre), I had 12.8 running, and upgraded to 12.10, which totally messed up my system.... Fresh install of windows and FSX, and fresh install of the 12.10 software and everything is working perfectly... Weird huh.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
