Simshed Tucano FSX prop fix?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a fix for the prop in the Simshed Tucano when used in FSX? The model is superb in so many ways, but in FSX when I view scenery through the spinning prop in spot view, the autogen that falls within the prop circle disappears. I have the same issue with the Wessex rotors from the same designer. These otherwise fantastic models are a wee bit spoiled by this characteristic in the FSX environment. Suggestions, fixes and solutions are welcome..

Hi Kenneth,

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I have used this procedure in the past to fix FS9 aircraft props when used in in FSX. But I think the problem was ALL scenery behind the prop was hidden, not just autogen particularly. Anyway, here's the link.

http://blogs.msdn.co...or-fsx-sp2.aspx

I have several prop planes and they all have some sort of graphical issue when it comes to the prop. Good luck.

EDIT: From that page is this toward the bottom:

"One thing that this cannot fix, or even make worse, is how clouds and/or autogen display behind or though the prop disc(s). Short story is, that's an artifact of FS9 vs FSX modeling and texture assignments, and display techniques, and it simply will be what it will be until an FSX-specific version of that aircraft is created."

Oh well.

I agree, AFAIK this is true of any FS9 transparent object (aircraft or scenery) used in FSX. I haven't found a way to avoid it, short of converting the object to FSX format.

Thanks for the information. Btw Avsim, I placed the original post where it was because I assumed this was an aircraft design issue. Made logical sense to me. Sometimes there appear to be areas of grey interpretation as to where a post should be. Is there a posting guide somewhere?

Kenneth.

Not a problem Kenneth. It happens frequently here. There is no posting guide. The place where you posted originally is where the aircraft is designed then maybe repainted. The message is computer generated and in every topic moved. You did good. I just thought it would receive better action posting it here. Thanks!

Best regards,

Jim

Ken, thats because both of those aircraft were designed to be used in FS9 but will work in FSX with some restrictions, one being the use of alpha channels for tranparent textures not working. Not limited to Simshed models but any FS9 native aircraft used in FSX.

Many thanks to everyone who replied. Brian, I encourage you to convert these models to FSX if possible. Your FSX Nimrod is spectacular, hope to see the Tucano and Wessex equally brilliant in FSX.
