July 21, 200421 yr Hi friends,it never happened before; i have been an happy simmer for months but now....daily CTD! :-mad Today on approach to LCPH after a four hrous flight from EGCC.The aircraft is PMDG 737/800 and during the last three days i encuntered three CTD, twice over Hungary and one approaching Cyprus island.I also edited terrain.cfg renaming all MaskClassMap=1 MaskClassMap=3 as MaskClassMap=0 but today again i got that terrible CTD.On the MS kick off screen i could read FACILITIES.DLL. Can this be helpful? Please help me :-zhelpThanks in advanceLuigi ;-)
July 21, 200421 yr This seems a symptom of bad add-on scenery or AFCAD... I would try to remember the add-ons you've installed over the past few weeks, and disable them. Even if an add-on does not cover the area the CTD happens in, you can still get a CTD sometimes hundreds of kilometers from the add-on scenery or AFCAD.-John
July 21, 200421 yr I have also experienced this a few times over the past few months. Usually its on long flights and my FS CTD out over the ocean, nowhwere near land or any other scenery. One time after crashing, I got a error message on XP stating my video card had a memory leak. I went and downloaded a new driver for the card and all seemed well. Then it happened again about a week ago on a flight from New York to Lisbon, Portugal. I was about 500 miles from Portugal and I got a CTD. I can't nail it down, but I noticed that I get this CTD when I am running Activesky 2004. If I use regular VATSIM weather, I have never had this problem. Again this is just a guess. I'd love to hear if others have had this problem, and more importantly, if there is a cure!!!regards,Gary PriceAAL600AvA Chicago Hub Manager
July 22, 200421 yr Search for a replacement autogen file in the library, it should get rid of most of those crashes due to bad MS programming which causes memory leakes
July 22, 200421 yr Hi,You might want to try and think about what you changed and/or installed in FS2004 recently. And make sure you don't have any duplicate AFCAD2 files. There is a utility in the Avsim library that should be able to help sniff out whether or not there are duplicate AFCAD2's in your FS2004. It's called SCANAFD.Regards,Jim
July 22, 200421 yr oh yeah one more thing, check fs9.cfg for duplicate display lines. Sometimes upgrading drivers causes flight sim to instead of overwriting the display line, to create a whole new one lower down towards the end of the file. This seems to conflict and cause crashes, most have gone away now. At least with me and the nvidia fx5950
July 22, 200421 yr I have had the same problems in the last week while flying the pmdg737.I even reinstalled FS2004 because I thought I had a real big problem. However it was not software relatet. It was simply heat.In the last days we had some great weather so my computerroom is 27 c hot instead of 20c cool. That prooved to be too much for my computer, since I have yet to reinstall my watercooling system. So try a flight with the side of the computer open and see if that works.Have FunJames
July 22, 200421 yr I also have had problems with CTD's recently but had not added scenery or any other add-on prior to this happening. Long story short:- after much trying this and that along with actually swearing at the damn machine to try and "persuade" it to play ball...just laughed at me and flashed a blue screen at me...some bright spark (my son) thought about it and came up with the idea that it might be the power supply!?!?! Checked it out and found the 3.3v was down to 3.07v at its lowest point during a flight...generally found it CTD when changing views making the puter work a bit harder. Changed my 3 year old 300W PS for a 400W thingy with multiple fans and "voila" instant cure. Ain't technology wonderful...along with the "computer literate" youngsters?Just something else to check maybe!
July 22, 200421 yr Thank you all for different suggestions.Just checked my addon scenery folder using ScanAFD and it found 6 duplicate AFCAD.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84930.jpgCan anyone please explain how do i check also my personal addon scenery folder that i have put into a different partition?Regard addon sceneries i recenttly added: Austrian Airports Singles 2005 (package 1-4-5) and G. Smith's Renfrew Airport. What i'm going to do now is to retry same flight after duplicated AFCAD deleted; after that i'll try disabling new added sceneries.I'll keep you informedLuigi ;-)
July 22, 200421 yr Howdy Luigi,I knew you would probably get a lot of responses as to what the problem might be. But I hope that removing the duplicates is the fix for you. I had been having the same problem, for quite a while actually. I knew it was bad to have duplicate AFCAD2 files, but I thought I had carefully installed addons making sure there were no duplicates. But for a while now I had been having CTD's in g3d.dll, g2d.dll, terrain.dll, and once or twice in facilities.dll. Sometimes I would get a crash within 10-30 minutes. Other times I could fly for maybe three or four hours with before it would crash. But one way or another my flights would always end in a CTD. Because I thought I had been careful I ignored the CTD's and would just hope I could have a long flight without getting one. A couple of days ago I finally looked around and found out that I wasn't as careful as I thought I had been, and that there were indeed a few duplicate AFCAD2's in my FS2004 that were installed and being loaded up with the sim.I got rid of the duplicates while keeping the ones that I really wanted. Then I ran FS2004 with the PMDG 737-700 all day yesterday with nary a hiccup. I'm thinking that, apparently, having some duplicate AFCAD's can be evil, very evil. :-saeSo I do hope that fixes your problem Luigi.Cheers,Jim
July 22, 200421 yr Hi Jim,can you please explain how can i check for duplicate AFCAD's in addon scenery folders? i keep all my addon airports and sceneries ordered into a different partition; you know, many addon sceneries have their AFCAD already into scenery folder and perhaps a duplicate file is in ..FS9addon sceneryscenery. And i have more than 300 addon sceneries :-coolFor example i could have Simflyers KORD in H: partition with its specific AFCAD and a duplicate AFCAD into ..FS9addon scenerysceneryThanksLuigi ;-)
July 22, 200421 yr You may want to check out your active processes. Use Crtl + Alt + Delete and then check the active processes. I was experiencing the same problems as you but I have no custon AFCAD or add-on scenery. The problem was with a process LSASS.exe running. This is part of the many Sasser Worm Versions flooding the internet. You will need to get the removal tool from the symantec website (the tool is free).I am not saying this is the solution just throwing out there as a possibility.James
July 22, 200421 yr What have found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After a careful check of my scenery.cfg i found an entry for the older(FS2002) version of Austrian Airports :-hahAnd i installed last sunday Austrian Airports 2005! So double scenery ACTIVE; but that's not all: in ..FS2004addon sceneryscenery i also found duplicate AFCAD for several Austrian Airport i installed for previous version :-8 At this point, considering i installed that scenery a few days ago, FS9 should work fine now. As it did until last week.I'll keep you informed thoughTake careLuigi ;-)
July 22, 200421 yr I redid same flight, same day, hour and FSMeteo METAR.And again shortly before approaching LCPH FS9 crashed, this time w/o any kickoff message, simply blank screen. It's terrible and frustrating :-mad. Now i'm wondering what more i can do:1) could be PMDG 800 series the culprit?2) or maybe that specific METAR (04072108)?3) next attempt will be after CPU frequency restored to original 3.2GB; and Video card freq's restored as well.Anyway i checked CPU temperature in BIOS and it is 45
July 23, 200421 yr open up fs9.cfg and do a search for displaysee if it comes up twice. if it does, thats your problem and delete the upper display line and replace it with the one lower down in the file
