Can you be more specific as to your question(s)?

"Why" ?

We must be military ?

We must be military ?

You don't have to be military but FedEx favors former military drivers. Single seat or multicrew doesn't seem to matter from friends I have with FedEx. FedEx has hired those coming up through regionals, 135, corp, small 121 cargo, etc but it is a lot harder to get an interview and sim.

Military pilots assist fellow military pilots. So if you have a large majority of military drivers in your fleet they will walk in paperwork of recently separated military pilots for new slots. So think of it as being fraternal.

If you want to get on with FedEx through the civil route either get on with a feeder or get to know FedEx pilots. Recommendations from current pilots for any airline you want to be hired on with are worth their weight in gold. Once you get comfortable minimums then try and get your package walked in.

Remember airlines are not just hiring a pilot; they are hiring a person that will be responsible for millions in equipment and property. They need to trust in who you are as a person and that you will be a good fit for the company. That is why you see high time drivers get through the interview and sim but still not get hired.
