First Officer for Fedex Express

Featured Replies

Hi,

How many flight hours does it take to be a pilot for Fedex ?

Thanks !

mmmm....looks like over 2500 and 1000 multi. I just Googled it, but it sounds realistic.

A lot. Probably at least 2,000-3,000 more than their minimums which I think the ones above are right. You also pretty much need to be personal friends of a few Fed Ex pilots. Fairly difficult job to get.

It's Hard ?

They also look at you as a person, I think they want to see pilots who volunteer in their own communities.

Big bias towards military pilots. Or so I've heard...

Maybe you should contact FEDX as this is where you would apply, I am sure they would have all the info you would like.

I know quite a few FedEx former and current pilots. They do tend to favor ex military and they do take into consideration the person. Knowing people at the company only helps if they are the hiring manager. I am still kicking myself for not going the flying route instead of computers. Blah. :)

As others have said FedEx leans heavily towards former military aviators. They also weigh recommendations from current pilots heavily and that is why you see mainly military guys getting their paperwork walked in.

It has become very difficult to get on with FedEx from the civilian world unless you are very high time. I know a now reserve F/A-18 driver who got hired in June with 1700 turbine because a former squadron member now 757 FO walked his stuff in.

Besides military or getting your paperwork walked in the only other easily successful route I have heard is to be a current/former feeder driver. If you spend a few years in the ATR or 208's as a FedEx feeder driver it is substantially easier to get an interview and sim.

You can try to get a job with FedEx as a thrower but I have only read it gets you a courtesy interview for being a current FedEx employee.

Go to a feeder and makes some friends. That is the only way to get in anywhere near minimums otherwise your going to need many thousands of hours.
