Short flight CTD

Featured Replies

So this is what I was doing before it crashed.

Just tried flying my self from WMKJ to WSSS. Which is Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, a short flight to get myself oriented. Flew the default A320 that came with FSX.

I saw THIS video as it teaches how to use the GPS to fly ILS and land by planning. A few questions though. How do I get the plane to stop overspeeding? Every time they get me to descend to 2500ft I will tune the Alt hold to 2500. And then they beeping starts as the bottom right corner of the screen flashes the OVERSPEED for like forever. At what speed should I be travelling at?

Also, in the video, it mentioned that I need a run way that uses ILS? And that I have to tune Nav1 and Nav2 to the frequency used by the run way? What is Nav1 and Nav2 for? And

1. Over-speeding issue

2. How to align plane to run way with ILS?

3. What is the Course bug for? Is that for ILS?

4. How to find the frequency for Nav1/Nav2 for the run way that I intend to land on?

Last but not least. As I approach the run way (don't know how I managed to be successfully heading in the right direction), it was 2oclock 15 miles to my right. I was suddenly lost. I slowly extended my flaps while the overspeed is still ringing in the background. 10 miles from airport, STILL 2ocolck to the right. FSX crashed to desktop. T_T

How do I fix the CTD and questions above!

Cheers,

Jay

As quoted from one of my other posts on some flying questions.. it shows what I was doing when this CTD happened.. How do I stop this from happening again?

And I haven't updated to SP1 and SP2. Should I be doing that? I was flying the default a320 with no extra addons.

Please help!

Definitely use at least FSX SP2. This should help on a lot of things, e.g. performance. If the problem persists, it would come in handy to know why the sim crashes. Windows logs such things for most of the time, so check the Windows Event Log and post the details here if you like.

If you are on Windows 7, the fix for the so called uiautomationcore.dll may be a good idea. But disregard that line for now, go for SP2 first. It's just that there are some standard items to keep in mind when running the old FSX on modern systems or with fancy addons.

SP1 and SP2 provide performance gains and bug fixes plus you need SP2 or Acceleration installed for many products. I'm positive you need to install SP1 before installing SP2 as Acceleration includes both.

You need to download and install AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. Then you need to copy and paste the crash report here (everything in the bottom pane).

FSX, at startup, has a Learning Center which will tell you about overspeeds, use of Nav1 and Nav2, course bug, alignment with the ILS, the APP. Flying the missions (beginner missions) will increase your knowledge in this hobby too.

Best regards,

Jim

Just installed SP1 and then SP2. Haven't tried flying again though.. Will do in a bit.

Meanwhile, I took a look at the Event Viewer but there isn't an entry that seem to point in the direction of FSX crashing.. :x

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or this is where I should be looking but I took this information from here..

Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application

And i scrolled down to the timeframe of when I recalled FSX to CTD.

Jay-Bernie

vafs_status.php?cs=SVAG1089

I dunno. Looks like you didn't have a CTD. When you opened up the Application Log, did you click on Find then type in FSX? That will find every event where FSX was involved. The Event Viewer records every event but the AppCrashView provides more detailed information. If nothing shows up in the AppCrashView, then you did not have a crash. Have you been able to duplicate this event? In the scenario you provided in the OP, there is nothing there that would cause a CTD.

Another possibility is that you could have had a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Sometimes those happen fast but the system usually shuts down when those happen as there is something seriously wrong with your system hardware and you need to fix it before any damage is caused.

Best regards,

Jim

I did not have BSOD. I would be well aware if that happened. Haha!

It definitely crashed. Is there a way to check if crashlog is activated? I recently had an issue with my SSD due to the lack of firmware upgrade. I fixed the problem with a clean install of the OS and a firmware upgrade on the SSD.

During the period where the SSD kept hanging and crashing I did not have any log of the crash either.

So I was thinking, maybe the settings weren't set to monitor and log crashes?

If your FSX quits and you land on the desktop again, it's very likely that Windows 'records' that event. You will find it when looking for the read marks in the event log.

It definitely crashed. Is there a way to check if crashlog is activated?

It's on by design. If you see current dates there, it's running. Since it logs all events, not only errors, you should have a lot just from booting the PC.

Just flew for about half an hour. No apparent CTD. This is weird!

Anyway, I was just wondering if I could get a copy of the FSX Gold edition to expand my FSX a little and I found microsoft selling it at 9.99! Of the usual 29.95! So I went to click add to cart until I found out they don't ship to Singapore -.-

What a disappointment. ):

Gold would just add the Acceleration addon to your SP2 installation. This will give you some planes and a few features and missions. Well, if you are into carrier ops, that's a good tip. For anything else, it's optional while there may be some addon planes which later need this or that Acceleration feature.

There should be some more shops selling it. And since you really just need that addon Acceleration, you may even be lucky on the price point.

First of all, good news on the CTD case. Keep an eye on it though. It's very likely that you will benefit from the uiautomationcore.dll fix. Just use the search in this forum section to find the download.

It mainly fixes crashes when accessing the menu or popup windows in FSX, running in Win7.

The fix you mentioned feels rather familiar. I could have been doing just that when it crashed as I recall!

Thanks for the tip!
