November 24, 201213 yr Have been getting introduced to the world of FMC programming using the JB 777 incredible freeware panel. One question arises. After entering a flight plan, will the LNAV and VNAV functions actually land the aircraft or do you have to break away from the flight plan (and the FMC) and manually land the aircraft?
November 24, 201213 yr It really depends on the airplane. I think a 777 auto tunes the nav radios, so you would just set it up to intercept the loc then apr and it will land on a cat3 runway

November 24, 201213 yr Any plane will have to be properly setup (FMC programmed, proper FD switches set, etc.) and then it depends on the LNAV/VNAV capability of the plane. The PMDG MD11 will perform a full ILS autoland, but you still need to lower flaps, lower the landing gear, arm the spoiler, etc. The CS MD80 is the same as above, but you also have to tune the Nav radios and a few other things. The ES CX750 will take you all the way to the runway, but it is not certified for autoland so in the RW you take over the controls at the RA/BA minimum altitude and land the plane. These are the three that I have and have experience with.
