November 26, 201213 yr Hi guys can someone please explain some of the details of this new historical weather feature that is in the latest version of Opus? So far it looks like just a checkbox but there is no way to choose the date/time of the historical weather you want to load so I'm wondering how far back it goes exactly?
November 26, 201213 yr I think it goes back up to 24 hours and it is based on FS time. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
December 27, 201213 yr SO just to understand.... If I choose a time in the sim within the past 24 hours, Opus automatically inserts the weather that was occurring at time of day?
December 27, 201213 yr Correct. Assuming you have the historic weather option selected. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
December 27, 201213 yr That's great for me, because it's exactly how I would use historical weather. One other question, does it use local time at my FSX location? Myself and my PC are on US central time, but for example if I start a flight at KLAX, will it use the weather at the local time in which FSX is using at the moment in Los Angeles?
December 27, 201213 yr It uses local FSX time...however you set that. Whether that be by using your system time or manually selected a time/date in FSX itself. How do you set your time in FSX? Do you use your system time? Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
December 27, 201213 yr I set the time/date in FSX to the system time/date. It's a little annoying because it doesn't account for the time zone, so if at 3pm (my time/central time) I go to KLAX, it also puts the time at 3pm, instead of 1pm which is what I wish it would do automatically.

Yeah, that's why I set my pc system time to whatever time zone/time I want to do my flight at and then tell FSX to use system time. I'm flying in Europe a lot right now so my pc is set to European time/time zone lately. Works great for me but all I use my pc for is FS. I imagine that might not be good for someone who uses their pc for other things as well, like a calendar...they'd be missing appointments all the time. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
December 29, 201213 yr Commercial Member All we do is read your zulu date and time directly from your simulator, of course you could manually set FSX to your required date and time rather than using your system date/time. Regards Cheryl
December 29, 201213 yr Actually the newest version of Simlauncher allows you to launch a flight at the current local time. Simlauncher is especially useful in P3D as it replaces the setup screen in FSX.
January 6, 201313 yr SO just to understand.... If I choose a time in the sim within the past 24 hours, Opus automatically inserts the weather that was occurring at time of day? Correct. Assuming you have the historic weather option selected. Having used the demo for the past three weeks testing i finally made Opus my first purchase of 2013 a few days ago : ) Anyway, i did'nt post just to say that. Question is i've read the manual but i need to just clarify the historical weather check box. Can i leave it checked even if i fly current time in sim. Being in Aus i tend to fly past weather in Aus and current in Europe. Thanks Kind Regards Simon.
January 6, 201313 yr Commercial Member Hi Simon If you leave the historic weather option ticked then the weather will not be as up to date as possible since it uses different weather cycle data. So I would recommend only ticking the historic option when you specifically want to use it. Regards Cheryl
